1. Who is covered by this Plan? 


Basic and Additional American Express Card Members with an eligible American Express Card and a permanent residence within the 50 United States,  the District of Columbia, Guam, Common Wealth of the Northern Marianas, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands are eligible for Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance coverage. For residents of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands, the Plan is underwritten by Tokio Marine Pacific Insurance Limited, Hagatna, Guam under Policy CRCB000000108. You must list yourself or an authorized driver on the rental agreement at the time of your rental.

2. How do I activate coverage under this Plan?


In order to activate Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance, you must sign the rental agreement, name yourself or an authorized driver as the renter, decline the full collision damage waiver ( or similar option ), or pay for a partial collision damage waiver offered by the rental company, and use your eligible Card to hold or place a deposit at the time rental is checked out and pay for the entire vehicle rental.

3. Where am I covered? 


Coverage is available internationally, except for vehicles rented in Australia, Italy, New Zealand and any country on the Office of Foreign Assets Control ("OFAC") sanctioned country list. Please note that, in the event any coverage provided by this policy would be in violation of US economic or trade sanctions, such coverage shall be null and void.

4. How long am I covered for?

Coverage is available for eligible Rental Vehicles when rented under a written rental agreement from a Rental Company for no more than 30 consecutive days after the Rental Vehicle was checked out.

5. Does this plan cover damage to other vehicles or injury to another person?


No, Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance does not provide liability insurance.

6. What is Loss of Use?


“Loss of Use” means the unavailability of a rental vehicle due to damage or theft and consequent loss of revenue by the rental company.

For residents of GU and MP, the Plan is underwritten by Tokio Marine Pacific Insurance Limited, Hagatna, Guam under Policy CRCB000000108. This benefit is not available to residents of American Samoa, Federated States of Micronesia, Marshall Islands, Palau and the US Minor Outlying Islands. Coverage is determined by the terms, conditions, and exclusions of the Policies applicable to your Card and is subject to change with notice. This document does not supplement or replace the Policies. Coverage applies for the first 30 days of a vehicle rental and when rented from a rental company. Coverage is not available for ride-sharing companies that allow individuals to rent out their personal vehicle. This policy does not cover some vehicles, e.g. off-road vehicles, limousines and antique cars as described in the Terms and Conditions. This product provides secondary coverage. This means it pays eligible benefits not paid by any primary insurance that you have.
