Starting September 28, 2019, you, the Basic Card Member (Primary Card Holder), will begin to earn points for your Additional Business Card Member’s spend. At this time there will be no other changes to the Basic Card Member’s Membership Rewards program account.
No, effective immediately we are no longer allowing you, the Basic Business Card Member (Primary Account Holder) to authorize your employee(s) to enroll in their own Additional Business Membership Rewards program account. Starting September 28, 2019, you, the Basic Card Member, will begin to earn points for your Additional Business Card Member’s spend.
Starting September 28, 2019 we will be cancelling Additional Membership Rewards program accounts. From that date forward, you, the Basic Card Member (Primary Card Holder), will begin to earn points for your Additional Business Card Member’s spend.
Enrolled Additional Business Card Members will have until October 31, 2019 to redeem the points in their program account. A full suite of redemption options is available until the Additional Business Card Member’s program account is cancelled on September 28, 2019.
From September 28 through October 31, 2019, points can be redeemed via phone for gift cards or transferred into a participating partner account.
If they don’t redeem the points in their program account, the points will be forfeited as of October 31, 2019.
Additional Business Card Members will have until October 31, 2019 to redeem the points in their program account. Points not redeemed by October 31, 2019 will be forfeited.
Until September 28, 2019, they can redeem points by calling the number on the back of their Card or via MembershipRewards.com.
After September 28, 2019, they’ll only be able to redeem points by calling the number on the back of their Card, and the redemption options will be limited.

Starting September 28, 2019, any spend on the Additional Business Card(s) will earn points for you, the Basic Card Member's (Primary Card Holder) Membership Rewards program account.
No, the points in an individual’s Membership Rewards program account are for the use of that individual and are nontransferable. For further information, please refer to the Membership Rewards Terms & Conditions.
If the Additional Business Card Member has another Membership Rewards program account under their name, they will be able to consolidate points from their Additional Membership Rewards program account to their other Membership Rewards program account.
Or, if they open a new Membership Rewards eligible American Express Card prior to October 31, 2019, they’ll also be able to consolidate points into the program account they get with that new Card.
To request point consolidation, the Additional Business Card Member must call the number on the back of their Card. The same Card Member name must appear on both program accounts. They must make this request prior to October 31, 2019.
- If eligible, your Additional Business Card Member can apply for their own Basic Business card that earns Membership Rewards. Learn more about opening a new Business account.
- You can make the Additional Business Card Member a Rewards Manager on your program account, giving the Additional Business Card Member the ability to redeem points you have earned.
You’ll have until October 31, 2019 to redeem the points in your program account. If you don’t redeem the points in your program account, they will be forfeited as of October 31, 2019. On and after September 28, 2019, the spend on your Additional Business Card will earn points for your Basic Card Member’s Membership Rewards program account.
What is Changing?
Starting September 28th:
- Purchases with your Additional Business Card will now earn points for your Basic Business Card Member’s Membership Rewards program account.
- Purchases with your Additional Business Card will no longer earn points for your Additional Membership Rewards program account, and your program account will be cancelled.
What is staying the same?
- This change does not affect your Additional Business Card.
- You’ll continue to earn Membership Reward points for purchases with your Additional Business Card until September 28, 2019. From that date forward, the Basic Card Member (Primary Card Holder) will begin to earn points for your Additional Business Card spend.

You’ll have until October 31, 2019 to redeem the points in your program account. A full suite of redemption options is available until the program account is cancelled on September 28, 2019.

If you have another relationship with American Express, you will be able to consolidate points from your Additional Membership Rewards program account to your other Membership Rewards program account.
Or, if you open a new Membership Rewards eligible American Express Card prior to October 31, 2019, you’ll also be able to consolidate points into the program account you get with the new Card.
To request point transfer into another Membership Rewards account, call the number on the back of your Card. The same Card Member name must appear on both program accounts. You must make this request prior to October 31, 2019.
