If you think your retail business doesn’t need a mobile shopping app, you may want to think again. Shopping apps aren’t just a way for customers to make purchases, eMarketer contends; they’re also a way for customers to engage with, learn about and feel closer to your brand, building customer loyalty.

In a recent study, 40 percent of smartphone and tablet owners who shop on their devices report that using shopping apps strengthens their connection to the company. A similar percentage say shopping apps make them more favorably disposed toward the brand.

While app stores are the primary way consumers learn about retailers’ shopping apps, recommendations from friends come in second (cited by 37 percent). In other words, shopping apps not only build loyalty, but also encourage your loyal customers to spread the word about your brand to friends.
