We keep stressing how important it is to actually engage your customers—and a recent survey from Constant Contact backs up that contention; in fact, it says customer engagement is becoming even more important for small business owners. So which tools work best for attracting and engaging new customers? Daily deals come in first (53 percent), closely followed by online ads (51 percent). Web listing sites, ads on social media and online coupons are useful, but less popular.

When it comes to engaging with existing customers, 60 percent of business owners say online survey tools work best. This is followed by tracking frequent shoppers, customer relationship management systems, email marketing and contact management tools.

Overall, business owners think websites are the best way to engage both new and returning customers, followed by blogs, social media, online video sites like YouTube and email marketing.

I think it’s really interesting that each category has a different number-one tool. That means you need to access your needs and come up with your own formula. Need new customers. Daily deals are the obvious choice. But to keep them coming in, make sure to keep your website, blog and social media platforms in the mix.
