Enroll and sync with QuickBooks.

Enroll and sync your American Express online account with your Intuit QuickBooks account so you can send Business Card transaction data straight to QuickBooks.

 
To enroll, log in to your American Express online account for your Business Card(s) from American Express OPEN. Then have your QuickBooks username and password ready to get started.
 
Import your own QuickBooks categories to start labeling transactions right from your American Express online statement or the ReceiptMatch Mobile App.
 
Review your transaction data and then send it to your QuickBooks company file — you'll spend less time manually entering expenses.

Frequently asked questions.

Which American Express Card Members can use Sync with QuickBooks? +

Sync with QuickBooks is only available with Business Cards from American Express OPEN. Basic card holders and Authorized Account Managers can create a link to QuickBooks, categorize transactions using imported QuickBooks categories, and send transaction data to QuickBooks. Employee Card Members can categorize transactions using imported QuickBooks categories.

Do I need to pay anything additional to American Express to enroll in Sync with QuickBooks? +

No. American Express will not charge you a fee to use Sync with QuickBooks.

Who do I call with questions about ReceiptMatch and Sync with QuickBooks? +

Call American Express Customer Service at (800) 492-3344 or the number on the back of your Business Card for ReceiptMatch and Sync with QuickBooks inquiries.

What is ReceiptMatch with QuickBooks? +

ReceiptMatch and Sync with QuickBooks are two separate business tools available with Business Cards from American Express OPEN; however, ReceiptMatch and Sync with QuickBooks were created to work together. Once enrollments in both tools are complete, you can take a picture of a receipt and match that receipt to a transaction made with your Business Card. You can then label that transaction with your QuickBooks categories and send the transaction data directly to your QuickBooks company file.

How do I sync my QuickBooks company file to Intuit Online Services? +

Please click here for instructions on how to complete this process or click Get Started and you will be directed through the sync process as part of enrollment in Sync with QuickBooks.

Is there a limit to the number of values from my Chart of Account, Vendor, Customer: Job, or Class lists that I can import? +

Users may import up to 2,000 Vendor or Customer: Job values and up to 1,000 Chart of Account or Class list values.

How do I send transaction data to QuickBooks? +

Simply log into your American Express online account and click “Manage Transactions” in the Sync with QuickBooks box on your estatement. You will be directed to a screen where you will be able to review, label, and export transaction data to QuickBooks. American Express will only share your transaction data with QuickBooks with your consent.

How long does it take for my transaction data to appear in QuickBooks once I’ve exported it from my American Express online account? +

If you are a QuickBooks Online user, transactions generally take a few seconds to appear in your QuickBooks company file once exported. If you are a QuickBooks for Windows user, the time it takes for transactions to appear in your QuickBooks company file depends on how frequently you have enabled your QuickBooks for Windows to sync with the Intuit cloud. Where will I see my transaction data once exported to QuickBooks? +

Transaction data exported through Sync with QuickBooks will be viewable in your QuickBooks company file credit card register.

How far back can I access my transaction data for the purpose of labeling and exporting to my QuickBooks company file? +

You may label and export up to 24 months of transaction data from your American Express online statement.

Can I label a single transaction with more than one QuickBooks category? +

Yes. You can split transactions, labeling a single transaction with more than one QuickBooks category.

Who can approve exporting transaction data from my American Express online account to my QuickBooks company file? +

The Basic Card Member and the Authorized Account Manager can approve how transactions are labeled and authorize sending the transaction data to your QuickBooks company file.

How do I know if my transaction data has been exported to QuickBooks successfully? +

A bar will appear at the top of your American Express online statement indicating whether or not the export was successful.

How do I make changes to how I label a transaction after it’s been exported from my American Express online account to my QuickBooks company file? +

You cannot make changes to how you label transactions in your American Express online account once you have exported the transaction data to QuickBooks; however, you can continue to make change in your QuickBooks credit card register.

How do I cancel Sync with QuickBooks? +

The Basic Card Member or Authorized Account Manager will need to go to Sync with QuickBooks Settings in your American Express online account and select "Delete Sync with QuickBooks."

How does the ReceiptMatch tool work? +

ReceiptMatch is a business tool that works with your Business Card from American Express OPEN that digitally matches and stores images of your receipts to your online statement so you can easily manage them from anywhere using your desktop or mobile devices.

Can I upload multiple receipts at once? +

Yes. You can send multiple receipts at once to receipts@open.com by including them as separate attachments in one email.

Can I match long receipts to a single transaction with ReceiptMatch? +

For the automatic matching process, ReceiptMatch needs the purchase date, amount, and merchant name. For long receipts, please ensure these items are legible; otherwise they may need to be manually matched via the American Express online statement.

Can I match multi-page receipts to a single transaction with ReceiptMatch? +

We recommend uploading a multi-page receipt online or through email as one file. The thumbnail image of the receipt on your American Express online account will only show the first page. To view all the pages of the receipt, access the receipt from your online statement, magnify the image by clicking the magnifying glass symbol, and download the full image.

Can I email a picture of a receipt? +

Yes. In order to email pictures of receipts to receipts@open.com, you will first have to sign in to your account online at americanexpress.com to add the email address from which you’d like to email receipts.

Why is my uploaded receipt not matching to a transaction? +

If the receipt image is not legible or the receipt is associated with a purchase you made more than 10 months prior to uploading the receipt, you need to manually match it to the transaction by signing into your account online at americanexpress.com. Please be aware that receipts cannot be matched to a transaction until the transaction is posted in your estatement.

If you have more than one Business Card enrolled in ReceiptMatch, please also be sure the receipt is uploaded to the correct Business Card.

ReceiptMatch with QuickBooks

When it comes to expenses, done feels good.

ReceiptMatch and Sync with QuickBooks are two separate business tools available with Business Cards from American Express OPEN. ReceiptMatch and Sync with QuickBooks were created to work together. You must enroll in ReceiptMatchSM and in Sync with QuickBooks separately from your American Express online account to use ReceiptMatch with QuickBooks. Sync with QuickBooks works with QuickBooks Online, or with QuickBooks Pro or Premier for Windows 2011 or later with QuickBooks Sync enabled.
