What’s New

The following information is for use in connection with the “COVID-19 Precautions for American Express Contractors” program.


This information was last updated on March 23, 2020. Changes from the previous standards include (a) requiring self-quarantine for personnel returning from any cross-border travel (not just specific countries), (b) the introduction of the online survey located https://global.americanexpress.com/covid-19/form, and (c) requiring self-quarantine for personnel with household children in a school or daycare that has had a confirmed COVID-19 case.


Applicable standards include:

  • Restricting business travel across any country borders
  • Requiring any personnel who have engaged in personal travel that meets one of following criteria to self-report to my company’s relevant department and refrain from returning to an American Express facility: (1) prior to March 16, the personal travel was from, to or through certain Restricted Countries* or (2) starting March 16, the personal travel was or is across any country border. In addition, if this occurs, my company will promptly notify valuedpartners@aexp.com. If personnel remain symptom*** free for 14 days following their return, they are then eligible to enter an American Express facility.
  • Stopping the holding of in-person group meetings larger than 25 people in American Express offices. The same principle applies for external business meetings.
  • Personnel who (a) are exhibiting Symptoms*** of COVID-19 or tested positive, (b) have a household member who is exhibiting Symptoms*** of COVID-19 or tested positive, or (c) have a child in their household whose school or daycare has a confirmed case of the virus, must self-report to my company’s relevant department and refrain from returning to an American Express facility. In addition, my company will promptly notify valuedpartners@aexp.com. If personnel remain symptom*** free for 14 days following their return, they are then eligible to enter an American Express facility..
  • Personnel who have had Close Contact** with anyone who has traveled from, to or through certain Restricted Countries*, or with anyone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19, must self-report to my company’s relevant department and refrain from returning to an American Express facility, even if the personnel themselves are not exhibiting Symptoms***. In addition, my company must promptly notify valuedpartners@aexp.com. If personnel remain symptom*** free for 14 days following the Close Contact**, they are then eligible to enter an American Express facility.
  • Personnel must promptly complete the COVID-19 Self-Reporting Health Status & Data form (located at https://global.americanexpress.com/covid-19/form) if:
    • The personnel are exhibiting Symptoms*** of COVID-19 or have tested positive for the virus.
    • The personnel have a household member who is exhibiting Symptoms*** or has tested positive for the virus.
    • The personnel have been potentially exposed to the virus through Close Contact** with a person who has been diagnosed with COVID-19.
    • The personnel or a household member have traveled from, to or through certain Restricted Countries*.
    • The personnel conducted any cross-border travel since March 16, even if not exhibiting Symptoms***.
    • The personnel have a child in their household whose school or daycare has a confirmed case of the virus and the personnel does not have the ability to work-from-home.

To the extent applicable laws or regulations impose more stringent restrictions than the standards above, your company must follow such laws or regulations.


* The Restricted Countries are China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, Italy and Iran.


** Close Contact is defined as 1-2 meters or 3-6 feet for 15 minutes or more
