FAQs
No – you can only apply for the same Employee Card as your Primary Card. For example, if you hold a Platinum Business Card, you can only apply for a Platinum Business Employee Card.
Charges made are the responsibility of the Primary Business Card Member and the Business. Charges will be billed to the Primary Card Member’s Account.
1. What is Employee Card Liability?
As of 1st August 2023, the Primary Card Member and the Business will be liable for all charges and fees associated with the Employee Card.
2. What does this mean for the Primary Card Member?
The Primary Card Member will be the sole signatory required to authorize the Employee Card application, enabling a more streamlined process.
3. What does this mean for the Employee Card Member?
The Employee Card Member must continue to comply with the Terms and Conditions of their Employee Card.
4. As the Primary Card Holder, what can I do to ensure the security of my Employee Card/s?
We want the Primary Card Member and their Business to continue to feel confident with their Account(s). There are two ways for the Primary Card Members, who hold an American Express Business Charge Card, to control the spend on their Employee Cards:
Set Spend Limits
Determine the spending capacity within your approved limit of each Employee Card to suit your business needs7.
Lock Cards:
Feel confident knowing you have full visibility of employee expenses with the option to lock Employee Cards when needed7.
For Primary Card Members who hold an American Express Business Credit Card or an American Express Business Charge Card, they will have full visibility over all expenses on their Employee Card/s in a consolidated, real-time view through their Online Account or Amex App.
5. What do I do if there are issues with the charges and/or fees on my Employee Card?
The Primary Card Member and the Business will be liable for all charges and fees incurred on their Employee Cards. The Primary Card holder must continue to pay for all fees and charges as per the statement by the due date.
If any issues arise, please contact the number on the back of your Card for further assistance.
As the Primary Card Member, you can do this anytime via your Online Account, your monthly statement or by calling the number on the back of your Card.
As the Primary Card Member, you will have all points earned from an Employee Card directly credited to your Account. For American Express rewards Card Members, you must be enrolled in the Membership Rewards customer loyalty program.
Once an application is approved, the Employee Card will be delivered via post to the Primary Card Member within 7 business days. It will then need to be activated by the Employee Card Member using the instructions on the back of it.

The Basic Card member cannot add an Employee Card under their own name or email address. Additionally, they cannot add an Employee Card under the name or email address of a previously approved Employee Card application on the Account.
Any misuse, as reasonably determined by us, relating to your Employee Card application may result in Bonus Offers being reversed, and ineligibility from future and other promotions.
The American Express Platinum Business Employee Card. Subject to the Membership Rewards program terms and conditions available here. $0 annual Employee Card fee for up to 99 cards (this limit includes both active and cancelled Employee Cards). 25,000 Bonus Membership Rewards points will be awarded to the eligible Card Member’s account up to 8-10 weeks following the successful approval of each Employee Card application within the offer period (“Bonus Points Offer”). If the Employee Card is cancelled within 3 months of approval, the bonus points will be revoked. Offer ends 30 April 2026. Bonus Points Offer is only available for up to five (5) Employee Card member applicants. 6. If your Card is lost or stolen, you must report it immediately. You can call American Express 24 hours a day. In Australia, call us on 1300 363 687. If you are overseas, call us on +612 9271 8666. Once you have notified us, you are not liable for any unauthorised charges.
7. You may limit the total dollar amount that your Employee Card Member(s) can spend during each billing period on your Card Account. Employee Card Limit Management does not apply to American Express Explorer Credit Card, American Express Business Accelerator Credit Card, Qantas American Express Business Credit Card or American Express Platinum Credit Card products. Unless otherwise specified in the full Employee Card Limit Management Terms and Conditions, the maximum amount your Employee Card Member(s) can spend within a billing period will be the spending limit you assign to the Employee Card Member(s). When you initially set a spending limit for your Employee Card Member(s) or after you unlock an Employee Card, any transactions made on the Employee Card prior to setting the spending limit or unlocking the Employee Card will not be included in the spending limit you set. Please read the full Employee Card Limit Management Terms and Conditions before using the Employee Card Member Limit Management functionality.
8. A business must be a Qantas Business Rewards Member to earn Qantas Points for business. Membership and the earning of Qantas Points as a business are subject to the Qantas Business Rewards Terms and Conditions. Points are earned in accordance with and subject to the American Express Qantas Business Rewards Card Points Terms and Conditions. Your business will earn 1.25 Qantas Points per $1 of everyday spend, which does not include annual fees, late payment fee and fees and charges for foreign currencies. Your business will earn 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent at participating merchants classified as "utilities" including gas, water and electricity providers; "government" including the Australian Taxation Office, the Australian Postal Corporation, federal/state and local government bodies; and "insurance" excluding insurances offered by American Express. Industry specific earn rate may apply when you use a payment account, payment aggregator, services of a third party or online retailers that sell goods for another merchant. For example a payment made to Local Government bodies processed through a payment aggregator may earn rates at the government earn rate. Your business will earn 2 Qantas Points per $1 spent on the following Qantas Products and Services purchased on the Qantas merchant account (i.e. directly from Qantas): Qantas passenger flights (with a QF flight number), Qantas Holidays, Qantas Branded non-airfare products, and Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club membership joining and annual fees. Excludes Jetstar. For the full list of exclusions, please refer to the American Express Qantas Business Rewards Card Points Terms and Conditions. There may be tax implications associated with participation in the Rewards program. You are advised to check with your accountant or tax adviser for further information.
*From 10 January 2024, once you have earned a total of 500,000 Qantas Points on your Card Account in a calendar year, your earn rate of 1.25 Qantas Points per $1 spent will change to 0.75 Qantas Points per $1 spent on everyday business purchases. All other earn rates (Qantas products, services and government, utilities and insurances spend) will remain unchanged. For Card Members who applied for the Card between 1 July 2023 – 9 January 2024, this change will come into effect from 10 July 2024. The points threshold is based on eligible Qantas Points earned during a calendar year and will be reset on 1 January each year. Qantas Points earned by all Card Members on a Card Account contribute to the 500,000 points threshold each calendar year. Bonus points earned from Acquisition bonus offers and marketing campaigns are excluded from the threshold.
9. Velocity Points are earned in accordance with and subject to the Velocity American Express Cards Points Terms and Conditions, and exclusions apply. Eligible purchases do not include cash advances and fees and charges for foreign currencies. These do not earn Velocity Points. For the full list of exclusions, please refer to the Velocity American Express Card Points Terms and Conditions available here. The earn rate of 2 Velocity Points per $1 spent on Virgin Australia only applies to purchases made in Australia. You will earn 0.5 points per $1 spent at participating merchants classified as "government" including the Australian Taxation Office, the Australian Postal Corporation, federal/state and local government bodies. Industry specific earn rates may apply when you use a payment account, payment aggregator, services of a third party or online retailers that sell goods for another merchant. For example a payment made to Local Government bodies processed through a payment aggregator may earn rates at the government earn rate.
10. Emergency Card Replacement: If your Card is lost or stolen, you must report it immediately. You can call American Express 24 hours a day. In Australia, call us on 1300 366 549. Once you have notified us, you are not liable for any unauthorised charges.
11. You must be a member of the Qantas Frequent Flyer Program to earn and redeem Qantas Points. A joining fee may apply. Membership and the earning and redemption of points are subject to the Terms and Conditions of the Qantas Frequent Flyer Program available at qantas.com/terms. Points are earned in accordance with and subject to the Qantas American Express Business Credit Card Points Terms and Conditions available at americanexpress.com.au/businesst&cs, and exclusions apply. Your business will earn 1 Qantas Points per $1 of everyday spend, which does not include annual fees, late payment fee and fees and charges for foreign currencies. Your business will earn 0.5 Qantas Points per $1 spent at participating merchants classified as “utilities” including gas, water and electricity providers; “government” including the Australian Taxation Office, the Australian Postal Corporation, federal/state and Local Government bodies; and “insurance” excluding insurances offered by American Express.
