How secure is a Samsung Pay transaction?

Your Card in Samsung Pay is protected by your Samsung Pay PIN or fingerprint. For your security, when you make a purchase using Samsung Pay, you must verify the Samsung Pay app with your fingerprint or Samsung Pay PIN. A digital Card number, separate and unique from your physical Card account number, is used to make a purchase with Samsung Pay. All of your payment information will be stored securely on your phone using Samsung KNOX. Your physical Card details are never shown in the app or shared with the merchant when you make payments.

You must keep your device and security credentials safe and secure at all times – in the same way you would your actual Card or PIN. Never share your device security credentials or allow another person to register their fingerprint to your device, as that person will be able to make payments using your Card. If you do allow someone access, you will be responsible for their use of your Card. We recommend you always use the device lock feature on your Samsung device, and only ever load your Card to your own phone.

Instead of using your Card number, Samsung Pay assigns you an encrypted, unique Device Account Number. When you make a purchase, this number, along with a transaction-specific code, is used to process your payment – meaning merchants will never see your details.

Call us immediately using the number on the back of your Card if your Samsung device has been lost, stolen or compromised in any way. We can suspend or remove your Card from Samsung Pay to prevent further unauthorised use.

You can also go to Samsung's "Find My Mobile" to help you find, lock and erase your phone.

Don't worry, you won't be liable for any fraudulent purchases1. No matter what has happened to your Card it's quick and easy to request a free replacement – just contact us right away on 1300 132 639.

Once you request a new Card, your digital Card number is automatically connected to your new physical Card number, so you can continue to make transactions using Samsung Pay before your new Card arrives.

We use your information to manage your use of Samsung Pay, present you with updates and to display targeted offers and advertising from time to time. Samsung share information with us for fraud and identification purposes. We always use your information in accordance with the American Express Online Privacy Statement.

We share aggregated and de-identified information with Samsung to help improve Samsung Pay. When you register your Card to your device, Samsung may access and process your information, including information about your transactions. Samsung’s use of your personal information is solely governed by Samsung's privacy policy.

1. Provided that you notify us immediately upon discovery of any fraudulent transactions and you have complied with your Card Member Agreement, you will not be held liable for any unauthorised charges.
