What is an Amex Velocity Card?

The Points threshold is based on eligible Velocity Points earned during a calendar year and will be reset on 1 January each year. Velocity Points earned by all Card Members on a Card Account contribute to the 12,000 Points threshold each calendar year. Bonus points earned from Acquisition bonus offers and marketing campaigns are excluded from the threshold.
American Express® Velocity Business Card
Velocity Points are earned in accordance with and subject to the American Express Velocity Cards Points Terms and Conditions, and exclusions apply. Eligible purchases do not include Card fees and charges, for example annual fees, interest, late payment, cash advances, balance transfers, traveller’s cheques and foreign currency conversion. These do not earn Velocity Points. For the full list of exclusions, please refer to the American Express Velocity Card Points Terms and Conditions available here. The earn rate of 2 Velocity Points per $1 spent on Virgin Australia only applies to purchases made in Australia. You will earn up to 0.5 Velocity Points per $1 spent at participating Merchants classified as "government" including the Australian Taxation Office, the Australian Postal Corporation, Federal/State and Local government bodies. Industry specific earn rate may apply when you use a payment Account, payment aggregator, services of a third party or online retailers that sell goods for another merchant. For example, a payment made to Local Government bodies processed through payment aggregator may earn rates at the government earn rate. There may be tax implications associated with participation in the Rewards program. You are advised to check with your accountant or tax advisor for further information.
2. Additional Card Members.
Additional Card Members must be 16 years of age or over. The Primary Card Member will be liable to pay for all transactions made by Additional Card Members. Earning of points is subject to the terms and conditions of the Rewards Program the Primary Card Member is actively enrolled. All points earned on Additional Card Member spend will go to the Primary Card Members Account. The Primary Card Member cannot add an Additional Card under their own name or email address and cannot add an Additional card under the name or email address of a previously approved Additional Card application on the Account.
3. Employee Cards: Employee Card Members must be over 18 years of age. The Business and the Primary Card Member are jointly and severally liable for all Employee Card spending. Each employee is entitled to only one (1) Employee Card.
4. American Express credit approval criteria apply. Participation in the "Refer A Friend" program is subject to eligibility deemed by American Express. All information is correct as at 15 October 2025 and is subject to change. This offer is only available to those who reside in Australia. American Express discourages spamming. You should only send referral messages to friends and family who genuinely want to receive them. By participating in ‘Refer a Friend’, you agree to these terms and conditions:
- Friend: For the purpose of these terms and conditions, the term ‘friend’ means:
- For American Express Consumer Card referrals, individuals that are your friends, family or close associates; and
- For American Express Business Card referrals, entities that are known to you including companies, partnerships and sole proprietors that hold an active Australian Business Number (ABN).
- For the avoidance of doubt, if you already have an American Express Card, you are prohibited from referring yourself for any American Express Card.
- Only Friends & Family: You must only send referral messages to close friends and family.
- Ask Their Permission First: You must ask the person for their permission and be given consent to send them an email about your Card product. Sending emails to people without permission is considered spam.
- We encourage fair usage of this referral program and so limit the number of individuals who can apply using your referral link. This is capped at 25 in any 30-day period. The amount of Bonus Points you may receive under the 'Refer a Friend' program for Personal Cards is capped at 200,000 points per year. The amount of Bonus Points you may receive under the 'Refer a Friend' program for Business Cards is capped at 10,000,000 points per year.
- Your friend must apply from the referral link we have given you. If your friend applies from a separate link or applies independently (i.e. if they visit www.americanexpress.com.au directly) you will not receive your points.
- You must not market or promote this offer through paid advertising channels or to the public at large (i.e. on public blog sites, search engines or in sponsored ads).
- You will only receive Bonus Points if your friend's Card application is approved (in accordance with our usual Card application processes and assessments). Note: We will not tell you if your friend's Card application is approved or declined for privacy and confidentiality reasons.
- Your friend may not receive any points if they hold or previously held any Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited in the past 18 months.
- You must be enrolled in the relevant rewards loyalty program to receive Bonus Points.
- It may take 8 to 10 weeks to be credited Bonus Points if you are successful.
Why should I comply? Any violation, abuse or failure to comply with these 'Refer a Friend' Terms and Conditions including, sending emails to individuals with whom you have no business, personal or family relationship, referring yourself, and efforts to bypass, manipulate, obscure or otherwise modify the delivery and accurate presentation of the referral link, sharing tools, content, disclosures, instructions or other materials we provide will be considered a breach of these Terms and Conditions and make you ineligible for any referral bonus, reverse any referral bonus awarded, and may result in your termination from the ‘Refer a Friend’ program and cancellation of your Card account.

7. Velocity Frequent Flyer members can earn or redeem Points for hotel bookings made with Virgin Australia via Hopper Hotels. All bookings made through this platform are subject to Hopper Hotels terms and conditions.
8. Velocity Frequent Flyer members can earn or redeem Points for car hire bookings made with Virgin Australia via CarTrawler All bookings made through this platform are subject to CarTrawler terms and conditions.
9. Virgin Wines Redemption Terms and Conditions
These Terms and Conditions apply if you want to purchase products from Virgin Wines Redemptions using Velocity Frequent Flyer Points only via the Virgin Wines Redemption store. These Terms and Conditions should be read with Virgin Wines Redemptions’ Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy.
The Virgin Wines Redemptions store is operated by Wine People Pty Ltd (ABN: 41 105 657 154) trading as Virgin Wines, Level 6, Suite 6.01, 1 Oxford Street, Darlinghurst NSW 2010 (Liquor licence:LIQP770016550). Orders will not be accepted (nor alcohol be delivered to) persons under the age of 18 years. You are purchasing wine from Virgin Wines not Velocity Frequent Flyer Pty Ltd. Your contract with Virgin Wines will be formed when they dispatch your product(s).
Virgin Wines delivery to most addresses in Australia including PO Boxes except the Northern Territory, dry zones across Australia and Parcel Lockers. Orders are usually fulfilled within a week but please allow up to 14 days. Delivery to outlying areas will be to the agent’s nearest depot. If an offered wine becomes unavailable, an alternative wine of equal or greater value will be supplied. If you are unhappy with the substitute, Virgin Wines will provide you a refund.
Virgin Wines is covered by a quality guarantee, subject to certain conditions. If a wine fails to satisfy, for whatever reason, and assuming it has been stored in suitable conditions, and has met Virgin Wines’ wine handling conditions, it will be collected and refunded or replaced (subject to Virgin Wines Redemptions Terms and Conditions). Subject to applicable law, Virgin Wines does not offer refunds and returns on older vintage and fine wines.

10. American Express Velocity Business Card Points Redemption:
When redeeming Reward Seats with Velocity Points earned on your American Express Velocity Cards all redemptions quoted are Reward Seats, subject to availability and to the Velocity Membership Terms and Conditions. Taxes, fees and surcharges are payable in addition to Velocity Points redeemed. Seats are limited and may not be available at peak times or on all flights. Any pay component is not eligible for Velocity Points earn with Velocity Airline Partners. Name changes and refunds are not permitted for certain fare types. Card Payment Fee (Payment Surcharge) is applied per booking when using a credit card or a debit card as the method of payment and is non-refundable. For bookings made with debit card the booking fee is charged at 0.6% per booking and credit card booking fee is charged at 1.3% per booking. The Card Payment Fee (Payment Surcharge) is capped at $11 for Domestic flights and $70 International flights. Additional baggage charges apply for Virgin Australia domestic and international short-haul flights; please view the Velocity website for a schedule of current fees. Fees will be incurred for excess baggage. Complimentary baggage allowances apply for Silver, Gold and Platinum Velocity members and guests travelling on Flexi, Premium Economy and Business Class Fares. Conditions and travel restrictions apply for all fares. Fares quoted to international destinations not operated by Virgin Australia will be flown by one of Velocity's international partner airlines. 11. Interest Free Period
The American Express Velocity Platinum Card and the American Express Velocity Escape Plus Card
You will have up to 55 days interest free on purchases provided you pay the full closing balance of your monthly statement by the due date each month. There is no interest free period on balance transfers or if you carry forward a balance from the previous statement period. The total of interest free days will depend on when you make the purchase and when your statement is issued.
12. Cash Flow Period
The American Express Velocity Business Card
Extend your cash flow by up to 51 days: Depending upon when you make a purchase, when your statement is issued and whether or not you are carrying forward a balance on your Account from your previous statement period. If you pay by direct debit, your payment will be processed 10 days after your statement is issued.
13. Provided that you do not contribute to or unreasonably delay reporting any misuse of your Account and you have complied with your Card Conditions, you will not be held liable for any unauthorised transactions.
14. If your Credit Card is lost or stolen, you must report it immediately. You can call American Express 24 hours a day. In Australia, call us on 1300 363 687. If you are overseas, report your lost or stolen Card to the nearest American Express Travel Service or Representative Office. Once you have notified us, you are not liable for any unauthorised charges.
15. Complimentary Flight
The complimentary domestic economy Virgin Australia return flight is only available between selected Australian cities and is available for booking by American Express Velocity Platinum Card Members after your first Card spend in the first year, and then after your first Card spend each year after the anniversary of your Membership. All flights are subject to availability and neither Virgin Australia nor American Express guarantees that seats or tickets will be available on the dates or at the times you may wish to fly. Seat availability may be limited to certain dates and/or flights and it may be more difficult to book seats around public holidays, school holidays or special events. Some flights may not have any seats available for redemption. Route availability is subject to change without notice. All travel is subject to the American Express Velocity Platinum Card Benefits Terms and Conditions available here and travel is subject to Virgin Australia Conditions of Carriage available at Conditionsofcarriage/VirginAustralia.com.
16. Virgin Australia Lounge Access
The American Express Velocity Platinum Card Virgin Australia Lounge Access is subject to the American Express Velocity Platinum Card Benefits Terms and Conditions. The Virgin Australia Lounge Access provides the Primary Card Member with access to Virgin Australia Lounges at Australian domestic airports whenever they are flying on a Virgin Australia operated domestic flight on the same day. American Express Velocity Platinum Primary Card Members will receive 12 months of Lounge Access on your Velocity membership. Enrol via your online American Express Account. This is your benefit anniversary date. After enrolling, activate the VA Lounge Access by making an Eligible Transaction on your American Express Velocity Platinum Card. Eligible Transaction does not include annual Card fees, cash advances, interest, balance transfers, fees and charges for traveller’s cheques and foreign currencies. After 12 months, at each subsequent benefit anniversary, make an Eligible Transaction on your Velocity Platinum Card to reactivate the VA Lounge Access. Please allow up to 7 days for the benefit to be processed on to the Primary Card Member’s Velocity membership. The Primary Card Member must provide their Velocity Frequent Flyer membership details to Virgin Australia Lounge staff and present same day boarding pass on a Virgin Australia flight. Additional Card Members are not eligible. Virgin Australia Lounge Access is subject to space availability. Virgin Australia Lounge is owned and operated by Virgin Australia Airlines Pty. Ltd. in selected domestic airports in accordance with Virgin Australia Lounge Terms and Conditions, available at virginaustralia.com/lounge and as amended from time to time.
17. Virgin Australia Guest Lounge Passes
Virgin Australia Guest Lounge Passes are subject to the American Express Velocity Platinum Card Benefits Terms and Conditions. Two single entry passes to the Virgin Australia lounge will be activated on the Primary Card Member’s Velocity Frequent Flyer membership account annually, on or after each anniversary of membership. Additional Card members are not eligible. Complimentary single entry Virgin Australia Guest Lounge Passes are not transferable, but may be used to enable other people (who are travelling with the Primary Card Member) to gain access to the lounge. 18. Bonus Velocity Status Credits
Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Credits are subject to the American Express Velocity Platinum Card Benefits Terms and Conditions. 50 Velocity Frequent Flyer Status Credits will be awarded when you spend $25,000 on Eligible Spend within your membership year, and a further 50 Status Credits when you spend another $25,000 on Eligible Spend within the same membership year. Membership year is defined as commencing upon Card activation and renews on the day of your Card activation each subsequent year. Eligible Spend does not include Card fees and charges, for example annual fees, interest, late or dishonoured payments, cash advances, balance transfers, traveller’s cheques and foreign currency conversion. Please allow up to 2 weeks after you meet the minimum spend requirement for the Status Credits to be credited to your Velocity account. In addition to Status Credits, Velocity members need to fly on Virgin Australia marketed flights to earn Eligible Sectors to upgrade or maintain a level of membership. 20. $50 Virgin Australia Statement Credit
Limited to one $50 credit per redemption period. The redemption periods are :
1. 1 January 2025 - 31 December 2025; and
2. 1 January 2026 - 31 December 2026.
Each redemption period resets on 1 January until the offer end date of 31 December 2026. You cannot carry any unused offer value from one redemption period into the next.
Save this Benefit First: You must first save the Benefit to your American Express Velocity Escape Plus Card via Amex Offers by simply logging into your Online Account or the Amex App, before making your payment to qualify for the benefit. Members will automatically be enrolled for the subsequent redemption periods from their enrolment date. The final date to enrol and spend is 31 December 2026. Only payments made after enrolment are eligible for the benefit. You should ensure that your American Express Velocity Escape Plus Card is set as your default payment method with Virgin Australia to avoid missing the benefit. If you use another card to make a payment at any time, you will not be eligible for the benefit on that card.
Primary Card Member Only: The Benefit is only available to Primary American Express Velocity Escape Plus Card Members using their American Express Velocity Escape Plus Card. Transactions made with an Additional Card are not eligible for this Benefit.
Eligible Transactions: The benefit only applies to payments made online at www.virginaustralia.com or in-person at the self-serve Kiosk or Guest Relations desk at the airport. Benefit valid for flight tickets, seats, bags and upgrades. Only valid for payments made in Australian Dollars at the Australian website and Australian airport locations. Your Card must be charged prior to the end of each redemption period to be eligible for the credit in the redemption period.
Excluded Transactions: The benefit excludes any additional purchases or charges, such as payments made for any in-flight purchases. Flights operated by codeshare partners are not eligible for the offer.
Direct Payments Only: If you pay using third party payment providers, such as travel agents, ticket offices, Buy Now Pay Later providers, or payment processors, you will not be eligible for the benefit.
Award of Credits: Credit(s) should appear on your billing statement within 30 days from the date of payment but may take longer. Credit(s) are not redeemable for cash or any other payment form.

22. Virgin Australia Lounge Access for American Express Velocity Business Card Members
American Express Velocity Business Card Members receive two complimentary single entry passes each Membership year. The Card Member must be travelling with Virgin Australia domestically. Access is to Virgin Australia-branded lounges in Australia only. Name on boarding pass must match the name on the Velocity Business Card. The Velocity Business Card Member must present his or her valid Card and same-day boarding pass (containing their Virgin Australia Velocity Frequent Flyer number and status) to Virgin Australia lounge agents. Single entry passes are valid for 12 months from the date of issue. The Virgin Australia Lounge is operated by Virgin Australia Airlines Pty Ltd in selected domestic airports in accordance with the Virgin Australia Lounge Terms and Conditions and Lounge Rules as amended from time to time. The Fare Advantage Discount of 4% applies to domestic Flex fares (L, K, H, W, B, Y class) and 6% applies to domestic Business Class fares (D, C, J class) and is available to Virgin Australia Business Flyer members. 26. Provided that you do not contribute to or unreasonably delay reporting any misuse of your Account and you have complied with your Card Conditions, you will not be held liable for any unauthorised charges.
27. Membership Rewards Program. Subject to the Terms and Conditions of the Membership Rewards program available here. Merchants classified as "government" include the Australian Taxation Office, the Australian Postal Corporation (Australia Post), Federal/State and Local Government bodies. Industry specific earn rate may apply when you use a payment account, payment aggregator, services of a third party or online retailers that sell goods for another merchant. For example a payment made to Local Government bodies processed through a payment aggregator may earn rates at the government earn rate. There may be tax implications associated with participation in the Membership Rewards program. You are advised to check with your accountant or tax adviser for further information.
28. American Express Travel Online. To earn or redeem Membership Rewards points, Cards must be enrolled to the American Express Membership Rewards program, and your Card Account must be in good standing. To redeem Membership Rewards points with American Express Travel Online, you need to have available limit on your Card for the full transaction amount of the booking. You will then receive a statement credit within 3 business days for your points redemption. If the credit isn’t on the same statement as the transaction, it should appear on your next statement. Please pay all amounts due each month. You will earn Membership Rewards points on the full dollar amount charged to your Card. All bookings are subject to the terms and conditions of our Membership Rewards Program.
29. Gift Cards. Gift Card or voucher rewards are not redeemable or exchangeable for cash or credit and are valid for a period of minimum 3 years from the date of issue, unless otherwise stated. We are not responsible if any Gift Card is lost, stolen, or destroyed, or the Gift Card is used without your permission. Membership Reward terms and conditions apply. Normal retailer gift card or voucher conditions apply, refer to the gift card or retailer website for details.
30. Pay with Points. You may use Points to make purchases at certain retailers listed on our website. You need to indicate at the time of purchase that you wish to Pay with Points. Individual retailers provide specific delivery and refund polices. Refund policies for Pay with Points retail Partners are subject to the Terms and Conditions of the retail Partner. The retailers’ conditions and refund policies may be amended by the retailers from time to time.
31. Cover Charges with Points. For each successful transaction with covered with points, points will be debited from your Membership Rewards account and a credit placed on your Card in line with the points chosen to be used for the Eligible Charge. A minimum of 1,000 Membership Rewards points is required to cover any eligible transaction with points. Any credit to your Card account cannot exceed the amount of the relevant Eligible Charges. A credit will appear on your statement identified as “Membership Rewards Credit”. Points will be debited immediately and the credit will take up to 3 business days to appear online. Credits processed after the Card account’s statement closing date will appear in the following statement. You are still responsible for payment of the amount due on your Card account by the due date. Any charges covered by points is not redeemable for cash via Credit balance refund. American Express will select and display each eligible charge that can be covered with points (“Eligible Charge”) and the points rate required to cover the Eligible Charge. Each Eligible Charge must: (a) appear within the Online Statement of the Summary of Accounts page; (b) be redeemed within 2 months of the charge appearing on your Card account; (c) not currently or have previously been disputed; and (d) not be a fee. Eligible Charges, including the points rate required to pay for the Eligible Charge, may be changed at any time without notice. Eligible transactions can be covered by points via your online account or American Express mobile app. Covering charges with points is available only to Basic Cardmembers enrolled in the Australian Membership Rewards program and is subject to the full Membership Rewards Terms and Conditions. Authorised agents, authorised account managers, additional Cardmembers and Authorised Additional Cardmembers are not eligible. All Linked Card accounts must be in good standing.
