How do I dispute a charge on my Card, and do I have to send details to help with my inquiry?
If you don’t recognize a charge on your statement, the first step is to review the transaction details carefully. Sometimes, charges appear under a merchant’s parent company name or may be related to a pending transaction that has since posted. We also recommend you contact the merchant directly. Often this can be the fastest way to get the answers you're looking for.
If you still believe the charge is incorrect, you can select a charge and open a dispute online by logging in to your American Express Online Services Account or by calling American Express Customer Service. However, we recommend you contact the merchant directly.
Once your dispute is submitted, we may ask you to provide additional details or documentation to help us investigate the charge. For example, receipts, correspondence or other relevant information. This can be uploaded securely through your online account or sent as instructed in our follow-up communication.
After your inquiry is received, we’ll review the details and keep you informed of the progress by email or letter. You can also track your dispute online under Your Disputes.
