What are the different ways to pay my American Express® credit Card bill?

Here are the fastest and most convenient ways available to pay off your American Express bill. You can choose to pay your bill directly through American Express or through the services provided by your financial institution: 

Pay American Express Directly:  

Electronic Payment Program from American Express 

As an American Express Customer, you have the following options available to you under the Electronic Payment Program. Regardless of the option you choose, you will first need to enroll your Canadian Bank Account information with us:  

1. Pre-authorized Payment Plan 

Select the payment amount to be withdrawn each month: American Express Credit Cards and Charge Cards can choose between paying the minimum amount due and the full balance due on their billing statement. Minimum payment is not an option for Charge Cards unless the account has Flexible Payment Option as a feature. This service is not available for American Express Corporate Cards

• Click on Payments →  select Manage Pre-authorized Payment 
• Enter your bank account details and register for automatic monthly payments* 

*Please note that the first payment pulled through the Pre-authorized Payment Plan will not take into effect until the next billing statement 

2. Sporadic payment

Make an immediate payment to your account or schedule a payment up to 25 days in the future. Payments can be made at any time after you initial registration*.  For American Express Corporate Cards, a payment can be scheduled up to 28 days after the date of the last billing statement .

Payments made before 8pm EST will  be credited to your account on the same day Log in to Online Services. Not registered yet? Register Now

• Click on Payments →  select Make a Payment

Sporadic payments are also available in the American Express^® App. Select 'Make Payment' when you log in. 

3. Pay by Phone

Call the number on the back of your Card to make an immediate payment or schedule a payment for up to 25 days in the future and up to 28 days after the date of the last billing statement for American Express Corporate Cards.

Payments can be made at any time after your initial registration is completed.

*Please note, we may be unable to process any payments you intend to schedule immediately following enrolment, as we require sufficient processing time to register you into the Electronic Payment Program.

Pay through your Financial Institution 

1. Online Banking 

Most financial institutions permit you to submit payments for various services online. In order to pay your American Express bill via this method, you must have automated bill payments set up with your financial institution. Please contact your branch for the requirements to setup this service. Your use of this service will be governed by your bank or financial institution's online payments policies and/or guidelines. 

This service typically requires 2-3 business days for payment to be credited to your American Express account. Please ensure that you have allowed sufficient time for payment to reach American Express and to be processed BEFORE your payment due date.

2. Telephone Banking

American Express permits customers to pay their bills by calling any of our Tele-Banking Partners. Please contact your financial institution for the requirements to set up this service. Make sure to have your account number and statement ready when dialing into this service.

This service typically requires 2-3 business days for payment to be credited to your American Express account.Please ensure that you have allowed sufficient time for payment to reach American Express and to be processed BEFORE your payment due date.

3. Automated Bank Machine

You may pay your American Express bill through an automated banking machine offered by your financial institution. Please contact your branch directly to register your American Express Account for this service. Your use of this service will be governed by your bank or financial institution's payments policies and/or guidelines, including the application of any fees. 

This service typically requires 3 - 5 business days for payment to be credited to your American Express account.

Please ensure that you have allowed sufficient time for payment to reach American Express and to be processed BEFORE your payment due date.

In Person (at your financial institution)

You may pay your American Express bill during regular business hours at a local branch of your financial institution. Your use of this service will be governed by your bank or financial institution's payments policies and/or guidelines, including the application of any fees.

This service typically requires 3 - 5 business days for payment to be credited to your American Express account. Please ensure that you have allowed sufficient time for payment to reach American Express and to be processed BEFORE your payment due date.
