Virtual Cards are unique digital card numbers tied to your specified American Express® Business Card account, which are generated with a security code, expiration date, and customizable spend controls. Transactions you incur on Virtual Cards are charged to the associated Business Card account and are therefore subject to the spending capacity of your Business Card account. Designed to help protect your Business Card details, Virtual Cards can be used to make payments wherever American Express is accepted.
No. Currently, only eligible American Express® Business Cards (Business
Platinum Card®, Business Gold Card, Plum Card®, Business Green Rewards Card, and Centurion®) can create Virtual Cards. Employee Cards are not eligible to create Virtual Cards.
American Express Business Card Members may have access to the use of Virtual Cards. Virtual Cards are unique digital Card number(s) tied to your Card account, which may be generated with a security code, expiry date, and spending controls. To create Virtual Cards, you must be the Basic Card Member of an eligible American Express Business Card and have access to www.americanexpress.com. Terms apply.
Each Virtual Card that is created has a unique card number, security code, expiry date, and spend controls set by you. This helps ensure that your associated Business Card account details are not shared directly with a third party when you spend using a Virtual Card.
Virtual Cards can be used at any merchant that accepts American Express.
There is no limit to the number of Virtual Cards that can be created.
Your transactions on your Virtual Cards are treated like transactions on your associated Business Card account. As a result, you will earn the same rewards as you would with your associated Business Card account.
The “active until” date is the date you’ve set as the last day you can use your Virtual Card. The expiration date is the day the Virtual Card actually expires. This means you can reactivate a Virtual Card as many times as you like until the expiration date. When making a purchase with your Virtual Card, be sure to use the expiration date of the Virtual Card if prompted for an expiration date.
