Amex's Agentic Commerce Experiences (ACE) developer kit is a suite of integrated services  

 

Together, these services provide the building blocks to enable Amex-backed agentic commerce experiences and support interoperability across agentic commerce protocols and standards.

Identify (Agent Registration)

Ensure only verified AI agents are authorized to transact on the American Express network.

 

Activate (Account Enablement)

Allow Card Members to register their Cards with verified agents and link their accounts for personalized Membership experiences.

Contextualize (Intent Intelligence)

Ensure Card Member purchase intent is accurately captured to support authentication, authorization, and disputes.

Fulfill (Payment Credentials)

Enable verified AI agents complete payments on behalf of a Card Member leveraging tokenized credentials.

Enhance (Cart Context)

Leverage available cart-level details as contextual input to enhance validation, authorization decisions, and dispute investigations.

In the future, if a Card Member authorizes a registered AI agent to make a purchase, and that agent sends American Express the customer’s authenticated purchase intent, American Express will protect eligible customers from charges related to AI agent error.2 Coming soon, you will be able to view a full list of registered agents and more detailed information about Amex Agent Purchase Protection.

  2. Amex Agent Purchase Protection Terms
  • U.S. Credit Cards issued by American Express National Bank and American Express Travel Related Services Company, Inc.
  • Agent must be registered with American Express and integrated with the Amex Agentic Commerce Experiences developer kit.
  • American Express must receive the Card Member-authenticated purchase intent from the agent.
  • Eligible agent errors include transactions where the purchase deviates from the Card Member-authenticated purchase intent.
  • Amex Agent Purchase Protection is available for eligible charges only after the Card Member has initiated a return (where possible) with the merchant following an eligible agent error.
  • Eligible charges include the full transaction amount and other reasonable charges directly incurred by a Card Member as a result of eligible agent errors.
  • Claims are subject to review and verification and may not be available in some cases, including where purchase intent is subjective or non-verifiable (e.g. “best” or “really nice”) or if a claim is fraudulent.
  • Amex Agent Purchase Protection is in addition to ordinary course dispute resolution processes that are available to Card Members.
