Refer a Friend. Earn Rewards.

The American Express Refer a Friend program allows eligible Card Members to refer friends to available American Express Cards. If a friend uses a Card Member's personalized referral link to apply for and get an available American Express Card, the Card Member could earn a referral bonus, subject to the terms of the referral offer.

1. Share your personalized referral link with a friend.
2. Your friend uses the link to apply for and get an American Express Card.
3. You could earn a referral bonus for each eligible referral, up to a maximum of five (5) times per Card Account per calendar year.

You can check if you have a referral offer in the Refer a Friend section of your American Express account or the American Express App. Referral offers may vary by Card Account and you may not be eligible for a referral offer.

Referral bonuses are typically added to your account within 8–12 weeks after your referred friend gets an available American Express Card through your personalized referral link.

Your referred friend does not need to earn or complete their Card welcome offer (if available) for you to earn your referral bonus. After your referred friend gets a Card through your referral link, you will receive a referral bonus as long as you have not already received five (5) referral bonuses through that Card in the calendar year.

To check whether you have received your referral bonus:

1. Sign in to your American Express account on the web or in the Amex App.
2. Go to the Rewards Summary page.
3. Filter for the month when your referred friend got a Card through your referral link.
4. Review your rewards activity for the applicable referral bonus or referral rewards.

Eligible Card Members can earn a referral bonus up to a maximum of five (5) times per Card Account per calendar year.

The amount of Membership Rewards® points or other referral rewards available for each successful referral may vary based on your Card account, available referral offer, and other factors. Referral offers can may vary and can change over time, so the referral bonus available to you may differ from the referral bonus available to another eligible Card Member.

To view your current referral offer, sign in to your American Express account on the web or on the Amex App and navigate to the Refer a Friend page. Referral offer availability varies, and you may not be eligible for a referral offer on your Card Account.

No. A referred friend will typically be taken to a product page for the same American Express Card associated with the referral link. However, they can explore other available American Express Cards and choose the Card that best fits their needs by navigating to the Personal Cards or Business Cards tab.

As long as the referred friend remains within the referral link and gets an available American Express Card, the referring Card Member could earn a referral bonus. The available American Express Cards presented through a referral link may vary based on the referring Card Member's account and other eligibility considerations.

In many cases, yes. The referred applicant may be eligible for a welcome offer associated with the Card they choose which may contain purchase requirements which must be met within a designated time period.
