Change & Cancel
If you wish to cancel your flight booked on AmexTravel.com, you can do so from your Manage My Trips page. A chat box will appear to help with your cancellation.
If you used Membership Rewards® points for your booking, and you cancel within 24 hours of booking, the points will have already been redeemed for a credit that appears on your Card account. If you prefer to have the points returned to your Membership Rewards® account, a charge will appear on your Card to net the credit to zero. See Collect and redeem your Membership Rewards® points for more information.
Card transactions and Membership Rewards® transactions happen from two separate accounts. Your ticket was voided so there was no charge on your Card account. The points you redeemed were taken from your Membership Rewards® account and converted to a credit. To put the points back, that credit will need to be reversed with a charge.
Airline ticket transfers
You cannot transfer your airline tickets to another traveler.
- Most airline tickets are non-refundable.
- Most airlines charge fees for ticket changes or cancellations. Check your itinerary for details.
- If the name on your ticket does not match your government-issued photo ID, arrive at the airport early to present proof of the name change (such as a marriage certificate or other legal document) at the airline counter.
Flight booking mistakes and name changes
If you find an issue with your booking, or have multiple itineraries for the same trip, please chat with us, when available, by clicking the chat icon at the bottom-right corner of this page. Otherwise, call the number on the back of your Card.
Also, contact us for any booking mistakes or incorrect traveler names. Most airlines do not allow corrections of any kind. Corrections that are deemed name changes by the airline will incur fees and any fare differences.
- The name on your government-issued photo ID must match your airline ticket traveler name.
- Most airlines allow for corrections to misspellings on tickets, and to nicknames (e.g. William/Bill, Lisabeth/Liz), but do not allow name changes to the travelers originally booked.
- The airline may process a name change for the airline change fees and difference in fare.
Missed flight
If you missed your flight, contact your airline directly for assistance. Some airlines may put you on standby for the next available flight.

You have the option to change your flight’s date or time, rebook to a new destination, or both. Membership Rewards® points cannot be applied to this charge. Airline rules and restrictions apply.

- Tickets cannot be transferred to another passenger.
- To upgrade your seat, call the airline directly.
- Rebooked flights must be for the same traveler and on the same airline as the original booking.
- Flight credits must be used for the same traveler and the same airline as the original booking.
- Airline change fee, ranging from 150 USD (domestic) to 300 USD (international)

The total cost of your change will depend on your airfare, your ticket details, and any applicable penalties or fees.
Airline Schedule Change
What should I do if the airline changes or cancels a flight?
- If you received a Schedule Change notice for a minor time change or flight number change, no action is required.
- If your schedule change indicates a seat change, visit your airline’s website to manage seat selection.
- If the airline cancelled your scheduled flight, please chat with us, when available, by clicking the chat icon at the bottom-right corner of this page. Otherwise, call the number on the back of your Card.
- If there is a major schedule change to your travel itinerary, American Express will notify you via email. Within that email, you will have the option to accept the schedule change by selecting “Manage my Trips”. American Express Travel will then process the change and send you a new itinerary via email.
- In the event you would like to discuss the change further, select “Other Options” and call-in options will be provided.
