Andean Community Immersion with Lunch

Journey to the traditional and colorful Andean community of Misminay, located in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Upon arrival, members of the community will provide a warm welcome and offer a glimpse into traditional Andean culture.

Participate in a traditional activity of your choosing in order to further explore the Andean lifestyle. Opt to learn how to make adobe bricks, attend an agriculture demonstration that gives thanks to the Pachamama (Mother Earth), learn all about the process of artisanal textile in a weaving demonstration, or hike to the community’s lookout point for a superb view of the Moray Inca archaeological-agricultural complex.

The day's adventure continues in the town of Maras where lunch awaits at the Iskay Maras Home restaurant. Nestled in an impressive setting of high mountains and green fields, the restaurant offers a unique Andean experience involving elevated cuisine and locally sourced ingredients transformed into seasonal dishes. After lunch, meet owners Jeremy and Tatiana, a Cusqueño couple who will share their experiences living in the community.

The Sacred Valley includes a terraced bowl following the contours of the surrounding hillside. The landscape is brown and dusty in the sun.

Reforesting the Sacred Valley of the Incas

Valle Sagrado Verde is a group focused on the restoration of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. In this adventure led by a member of the group, you'll learn more about this pivotal reforestation and conservation project while experiencing the splendor of an Andean forest. The day begins with a visit to the Pumamarca Ruins, historic remains of a hillside fortress once part of the Wari/Inca empires.

Continue on the Choquechaka Private Conservation Area to learn about Andean Forests and their ecosystems. Enjoy a tour of the forestry nursery and gain insight into local ecosystems and conservation efforts. Along the way, your local hosts will share their knowledge about sustainability, reforestation and local production in the Andean World, along with Valle Sagrado Verde’s plans for restoring the natural environment of Ollantaytambo and the Sacred Valley.

Fuel up with a traditional Pachamanca lunch at the El Albergue Farm’s restaurant. Your tour concludes with a visit to El Albergue’s distillery and coffee roastery before returning to your hotel in the Sacred Valley.

The stone ruins of Machu Picchu form neat grids of streets and houses terraced along the peak of a mountain.

Machu Picchu Walking Tour

Steeped in mystery, the mountain citadel of Machu Picchu is a sight to behold. Believed to have been constructed sometime around 1450 CE and abandoned just over a century later, it is one of the world’s most prized heritage sites, and for good reason; complementing a fascinating history and incredible architecture are unforgettable views of the surrounding mountain ranges and the wild Urubamba River some 2,000 feet below.

With a private guide catering to your personal interests and providing an informative overview of the history and architecture of this ancient citadel, gain a firsthand understanding of – and intimate appreciation for – the pièce de résistance in Peruvian travel. Depending on the timing of your arrival, you will visit the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge, the only hotel found atop Machu Picchu, to enjoy a leisurely lunch either before or after your in-depth tour.
