Discover flexible
spending power
with your American
Express® Charge Card
One of the great advantages of your American Express Charge Card is that it has flexible spending power. This means that the amount you can spend is dynamic and can adapt based on your transaction patterns, your business' credit rating (for Business Charge Cards) or personal credit rating (for Personal Charge Cards), and other factors.
Understanding flexible spending power
Flexible capacity
Flexible capacity |
Unlike a Credit Card, your Charge Card comes with flexible spending power, also known as 'no pre-set spending limit’, unless we tell you otherwise.1
This means that the amount you can spend adapts based on your transaction patterns and other factors.
Maximise spending power
Maximise spending power |
The way you use your Card can help your spending power grow, particularly within the first few months.
Start spending on your Card and repay the balance before the due date.
You can do this multiple times within your statement period.
*Terms and conditions apply (Business Charge Card T&Cs; Personal Charge Card T&Cs). Subject to status and eligibility. We reserve the right to apply spending limits in accordance with the Business and Personal Charge Card Member Agreements.

Want to know more?
Yes. You should remember that we use a broad range of internal and external credit information to assess your spending power. Missed payments on your Amex Card, including on another Amex Card can reduce your spending power. Other factors, such as gradually increasing your total spending and keeping up with all of your repayments can positively impact your spending power over time.
Just log-in to your Online Account, and the ‘Check Spending Power’ tool is on your home page below ‘Total Balance’.
Open the Amex® App and tap ‘Statements and Activity’ and then tap ‘Spending Power’.
When your spending power amount is approved, you can spend up to this amount within 72 hours. This approved amount is an estimate based on your current Account status. Approval may be affected by overdue payments, changes in spending or fraud risk on your Card.
If you’re looking to maximise your spending power, make regular transactions on your Card, particularly within the first few months. Always make sure your repayments to Amex are made before the due date (this date is marked on your Account). Missing repayments can have a negative impact on your spending power.
You can spend as soon as your Card Account is active. All repayments are clearly marked with a due date. You can make multiple repayments at any time within your statement period, but make sure these repayments are made before the stated due date to help maximise your spending power.
