Earn Points
Your Platinum Card places you on the very highest tier of the Membership Rewards program1, with no expiry on your points.
Earn 2.25 points per $1 spent on all purchases and 1 point per $1 spent with government bodies in Australia.
There is no cap on the amount of points you can earn each year and your points will accumulate regardless of how much you spend each year.
You can also earn points on all spend made on Additional Cards2 and can earn up to 200,000 Bonus Reward Points per year by successfully referring friends for an American Express® Card3.

With Platinum, you can transfer your points to a choice of 12 major Airline Reward Partner programs, including Qantas Frequent Flyer and Velocity Frequent Flyer4.

1. Membership Rewards. Subject to the Terms and Conditions of the Membership Rewards program available at americanexpress.com/en-au/rewards/membership-rewards/terms. Government transactions will earn 1 point per dollar spent with Merchants classified as "government", including the Australian Taxation Office, the Australian Postal Corporation (Australia Post), Federal/State and Local Government bodies. Industry specific earn rate may apply when you use a payment account, payment aggregator, services of a third party or online retailers that sell goods for another merchant. For example a payment made to Local Government bodies processed through a payment aggregator may earn rates at the government earn rate.
2. Additional Cards. Additional Card Members must be 16 years of age or over. Additional Card Members were previously referred to as “Supplementary Card Members”. The Primary Card Member will be liable to pay for all transactions made by Additional Card Members.
3. Refer a friend. American Express discourages spamming. You should only send referral messages to friends and family who genuinely want to receive them. Subject to 'Refer a Friend' Terms and Conditions available here. In order to be eligible for bonus points, your friend must apply using the referral link you send them. If your friend applies from a separate link or applies independently you will not receive bonus points. You cannot refer a friend who already has one of our Cards or has held one in the last 18 months and you will only receive the Bonus Points if your friend's Card application is approved. You may only send referral messages to a maximum of 20 friends and the amount of Bonus Points you may receive under the ‘Refer a Friend’ program is capped at 200,000 points per year.
4. Points transfer. Subject to the terms and conditions of the Membership Rewards program available at here. To transfer Membership Rewards points into an airline rewards or frequent guest partner program you must be a member of the partner program. Membership of the partner program is the Card Member’s responsibility and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable program. A joining fee may apply.
5. Membership Rewards Terms & Conditions:
To earn or redeem Membership Rewards points, Cards must be enrolled to the American Express Membership Rewards program, and your Card Account must be in good standing.
To redeem Membership Rewards Points with American Express Travel Online, you need to have available limit on your Card for the full transaction amount of the booking. You will then receive a statement credit within 3 business days for your points redemption. If the credit isn’t on the same statement as the transaction, it should appear on your next statement. Please pay all amounts due each month. You will earn Membership Rewards points on the full dollar amount charged to your Card.

6. Select and Pay with Points. This is available to primary Card Members enrolled in the Membership Rewards program. Minimum redemption amounts apply. Any credit to your Card Account cannot exceed the amount of the relevant Eligible Charges or the current outstanding balance on your Account. Certain fees and charges are excluded. Points will be debited immediately and the credit can take up to 72 hours to appear online. Credits processed after the Card account’s statement closing date will appear in the following statement. You are still responsible for payment of the amount due on your Card account by the due date. Subject to the Membership Rewards Terms & Conditions here.
7. Shop with Points - David Jones. Subject to the terms and conditions of the American Express Membership Rewards program available at membershiprewards.com.au/termsandconditions and the David Jones Terms and Conditions available at davidjones.com.au Terms and conditions apply to all Membership Rewards redemption options and redemption is subject to availability. Subject to your Account being kept in good standing and not overdue. Only American Express Cards issued by American Express Australia Limited are eligible provided they are enrolled in the Membership Rewards program. Additional Card Members are not eligible for Shop with Points transactions. The Primary Card must be used to complete the transaction. Minimum redemption amounts apply. 8. Gift Cards. Please allow up to 10 days for the Gift Cards to be delivered. Gift Card or voucher rewards are not redeemable or exchangeable for cash or credit.
