When you fully charge or finance the purchase price of an eligible mobile device to your American Express SimplyCash® Preferred Card, you can be covered for up to $1,000 per insured person, in the event of theft, loss or accidental damage, anywhere in the world. Coverage begins on the date the first transaction related to the purchase of your mobile device is charged to your Card, or on the 91st day following the date of purchase of your mobile device (in order to avoid overlap with the 90-day coverage available to you under your Purchase Protection® Plan Certificate of Insurance), and continues for a maximum of 2 years from the date of purchase.5†
Travel Coverage
Can provide coverage of up to a maximum of $5,000,000 for eligible emergency medical expenses incurred by an insured person under age 65 while travelling outside your Canadian province or territory of residence for the first 15 consecutive days of a covered trip.
You can receive up to $500 in coverage (aggregate maximum with Baggage Delay Insurance) for necessary and reasonable accommodations, restaurant expenses and sundry items purchased within 48 hours when delayed or denied boarding for 4 hours or more and no alternate transportation is made available when you fully charge your airline ticket to your SimplyCash® Preferred Card.
You can receive up to $500 in coverage (aggregate maximum with Flight Delay Insurance), for reasonable and necessary emergency purchases for essential clothing and sundry items purchased within four days of arrival at your destination when your checked-in baggage on your outbound trip is delayed for 6 or more hours when you fully charge your airline ticket to your SimplyCash® Preferred Card.
You can receive up to $500 in coverage against the loss of most personal items (excluding cash) if your accommodation is burglarized when you fully charge your accommodations to your SimplyCash® Preferred Card.
You can be covered for loss or damage to your checked-in or carry-on baggage and personal effects while in transit for up to a maximum of $500 per trip for all insured person(s) combined when you fully charge your airline tickets to your SimplyCash® Preferred Card.
You can be covered up to $100,000 of Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance when you fully charge your common carrier (plane, train, ship or bus) tickets to your SimplyCash® Preferred Card.
You can be covered for theft, loss and damage of your rental car with an MSRP of up to $85,000 for rentals of 48 days or less when you fully charge your rental to your SimplyCash® Preferred Card.

1. You can earn 4% cash back for eligible purchases at American Express retail merchants as follows: (i) at stand-alone automobile gasoline stations in Canada, and (ii) at stand-alone grocery stores in Canada, up to a maximum of $30,000 in purchases posted to your account on this category (equal to $1,200 cash back) annually. Once the maximum is reached, you will no longer earn 4% regardless of credits, returns and adjustments subsequently posted to your account. After that, you will then earn 2% on eligible purchases. Calculation resets to zero each year on the Cardmembership anniversary date. Purchases at merchants where gas and grocery are not their primary business (including superstores, wholesale clubs, alcohol retailers and general merchandise retailers) do not qualify for these categories.
Merchants are typically assigned codes and categorized based on what they sell. Earn rate of 2% cash back on eligible purchases applies when the merchant code is not in an eligible category, using a payment account or service of a third party, a card reader attached to a mobile phone or online retailer that sells goods of other merchants or the merchant category is otherwise not identified. Provided your account is in good standing, cash back can be earned on eligible purchases less returns and other credits. Interest rate charges, annual fees, other fees and cash equivalent transactions are not purchases and do not qualify for cash back. If you choose to return a purchase or are otherwise entitled to a credit or adjustment that is related to a purchase, your entitlement to cash back rewards will be reduced accordingly. All deductions for returns, credits and adjustments will be calculated at the earn rate in effect at the time of the return, credit or adjustment. This means that the cash back rewards deducted from your balance may be different from the amount originally earned. Cash back is applied as a credit to your account annually and will appear on the statement issued in September of each year. The cash back calculation resets annually. All references to you means the Basic Cardmember.
2. Account must be in good standing. An additional Card is a supplementary Card. No annual fee for supplementary Cards. Supplementary Cardmembers must be at least 13 years old. Maximum of 9 supplementary Cards per account.

4. Referral Program Terms: Your account must be in good standing. If this is a personal or family referral, you agree to only make recommendations to known friends and family members with whom you have a relationship and who have confirmed to you that they want to receive this communication. If this is a referral in the context of your business, you agree to only make recommendations to business contacts whom you know and have consented to receive this recommendation from you. You must not send recommendations to people you do not know. Whenever you reach out to a potential referral, you will only use content we provide. Any additional statements you make cannot be inconsistent with our content and must be truthful, accurate and not misleading. You should not publish or distribute your referral link in locations where the audience is likely to include individuals with whom you do not have a business, personal or family relationship or who may not be interested in the offer. You can only receive a maximum referral bonus of $750 cash back per calendar year for approved referrals, which includes eligible referral bonus amounts from both (i) special or limited time referral offers and (ii) regular referral offers in that same calendar year. Referral bonus for each approved referral and maximum annual referral bonus limit may change at any time and if you change card products. Should the referral bonus amount change during the calendar year, you may receive a partial bonus depending on the available maximum bonus amount. You are not eligible to receive this referral bonus offer if you have already reached your maximum annual referral bonus limit. The referral bonus will be awarded to you based on each eligible referral for which American Express receives an application that is subsequently approved, subject to all applicable terms and conditions. Your referral bonus will be awarded in the calendar year in which the eligible referral application is approved and not when the referral application is received. Due to the confidential nature of the approval process, you will not be notified when applications are approved or declined and any individual you have referred must agree to allow your account to be bonused upon approval or you will not receive the referral bonus. If our records indicate that any person you have referred has opted not to receive e-mails from us, your referral will not be sent and you will not receive the referral bonus offered as part of this program. Referral program varies by product and may be modified, suspended, cancelled or otherwise terminated without notice. Cannot be combined with any other offer. If the people that you refer have already applied for the product that you are referring without participating in this program, neither you nor they will be eligible for any referral bonus that may be offered as part of this program. Likewise, if the people you refer decide to apply for a Card through this referral program other than the one you have specifically recommended, the referral bonus for which you and they may be eligible will vary. Your Card account's eligibility to participate in the referral program is based on your creditworthiness and other factors including your account history with American Express. Referral program participants should allow 8 to 10 weeks for the award of the referral bonus once program criteria have been met and must be enrolled in the corresponding loyalty program (if applicable) when the referral bonus is awarded. American Express reserves the right to limit, cancel, or revoke a referral or welcome bonus if it determines, in its sole discretion, you have violated these Terms. 10. When you create an installment plan, you will be charged a monthly installment fee. The monthly installment fee percentage will be disclosed to you during plan creation. This is not a promotional or special rate offer. The fee charged is comparable to the interest you would have paid if you carried this balance on your account, without being in an installment plan. Please see the Plan ItTM (American Express Installment Program) section in your Cardmember Agreement or the program Terms and Conditions for more details. Plan It is currently not available in Quebec, Nova Scotia, PEI or Nunavut.
11. Eligible cards will vary by offer and are subject to change. Select Canadian American Express Cards issued by Amex Bank of Canada and cards issued by a licensed third party issuer (as applicable) are eligible cards for the offer. The following cards are not eligible: American Express Corporate Cards, American Express® Gift Cards and Prepaid Cards. Subject to offer terms and conditions, and full program terms.
12. Purchase must be charged in full to an American Express Card. Subject to availability and to event and ticketing terms, restrictions, verification procedures and fees. Tickets and packages may not be transferable and should not be resold. No refunds and no exchanges subject to merchant’s obligations under applicable law.
13. We will guarantee protection against fraudulent payments on your Card, provided you have taken the responsibility to notify us immediately, and you have complied with your Card Terms and Conditions.
14. Use the American Express Card online or off, and you won’t be held responsible for any fraudulent charges, as long as you’ve taken reasonable care to protect your account details, PIN and any device on which you have added your account information. Notify us at once if your Card or eligible device is lost or stolen, or you suspect it is being used without your permission.
