Valid identification documents
All documents you provide need to be valid, complete, and clearly readable. Please check your documents before sending them to us. If any of your documents are out-of-date, incomplete, or blurry, we may need to ask you for another copy.
Identification documents must be valid for at least one month.
- Photo page of your valid passport
- Valid photocard driving license (full or provisional) (where driving license is supplied as proof of identity, a separate document is required for proof of address)
- Valid National Identity Card
- Photocard driving license where residential address is shown (where driving license is supplied as proof of identity, a separate document is required for proof of address)
Dated within 3 months:
- Bank, credit card, building society, or credit union statement
- Utility bill
Dated within 12 months:
- Council tax statement
- HMRC issued correspondence/document
- Annual mortgage statement
- Bank loan correspondence
- Formal property rental agreement
Finding your log in details
To find your login details, please check your inbox for an email from americanexpress.com. You can try searching for the term ‘KYC’ (Know Your Customer), This email includes your unique login ID and a link to our secure online portal where you need to log in. Please note, this portal is different from your usual American Express Online Account login page.
Follow the steps:

You will receive an email or letter from us containing a link to the secure online portal and a unique user ID.

Click the link to the portal - americanexpress.com/uk/en/aml- and enter using your User ID to login. If this is your first time, you’ll receive a one-time password to help you set up your own permanent password. If you have used the portal before but forgot your password, click ‘Forgot Password’ under the login button to reset it.

It will take up to 30 minutes to complete. Please ensure all the information provided is accurate (click here for more information on valid identification documents).

When you’re finished uploading all the required documents, click ‘Submit’. Please make sure everything is uploaded before submitting, as you will not be able to access the portal again unless we need more documents or further updates from you.

As a financial institution American Express is required to collect, update and review the information we hold about our clients to meet our regulatory obligations. You have been contacted as we require you to share information about your business to allow us to meet this regulatory requirement. In order to verify details on your Account, some further documentation may also be required.
We are legally required to undertake certain procedures to establish the identity of our clients, as well as ensure the information we have on file for our existing clients is kept up to date.
It is a regulatory requirement for us to update your information, which will be completed periodically. The frequency in which we contact you for this type of information can change and considers various factors about your business.
As American Express is a financial institution, we are required to adhere to our regulatory obligations. In order to do this, we are required to periodically update our client's information. Your information will not be used for any purpose other than what is disclosed in the Account Information and Data Protection Section of your agreement.
As we are under a regulatory obligation to hold this information about our customers, if we are not able to successfully update our records after a period your Accounts would need to be closed. This is not something we want to occur, so we work with our customers and provide support where required.

Once all the required fields are completed and you have uploaded all the required documents, you will be able to submit the information. Please review all the sections and the previous pages to see if an error has been identified. If all information is correct, it is also possible the form has timed out due to inactivity. Try closing the portal and logging back in.
Yes. Simply click on "Save" and your information will be retained until your next login. Please do not click ‘Submit’ until all the documents have been uploaded.
This information should be provided by the primary Cardholder on your Business Account.
The email or letter that you have received from us will state how soon this is expected from you. We ask you to complete the update process within the specified period.
