We have invited a small pilot group to the Digital Card feature now. The feature will become available to more Cardmembers soon.
No, it’s a separate Card with its own details. You can keep both Cards, and they’ll both be attached to the same Account.

Making it nearly impossible for anyone to use your Card but you. Plus, your Digital Card only exists inside the Amex® App, where it’s encrypted. All of which means, even if your phone were lost or stolen, your Digital Card would stay safe – so safe you wouldn’t need to cancel it.
We create a new security code (CVV) every time you spend to protect your Card and keep your Account details safe.
If you suspect fraud, please call us straight away on the number on back of your American Express® Card.
If you’re spending online, your Digital Card is the safer way to pay. If you’re spending in a store, you can keep on using your physical Card the way you normally do.
You can use your Digital Card to spend online the same as you would on your American Express® Card.

Your Digital Card only exists inside the Amex® App, where it’s encrypted. That means even if you lose your phone, your Digital Card stays safe – so safe you don’t need to cancel it. When you get your new phone, we’ll do some extra security checks before you can see your Digital Card again. But if you’ve lost your phone and you’re worried that someone else might be able to use your password or other security details, get in touch with us.
Yes, you can set your Digital Card as your default Card at online stores.
Having a Digital Card won’t impact your physical Card if you’ve saved it in a store or online.
You can save your Digital Card number and expiry date with your browser. You will still need to enter your dynamic security code (CVV) each time to keep every payment secure.
American Express® Digital Card UK Terms and Conditions
Any capitalised terms that are not defined in these Terms and Conditions will take their definition from your Card Account agreement which is the main agreement for the use of your Card.
1. Digital Card
The Digital Card is issued by American Express Services Europe Limited (“American Express”) in favour of the Client Customer (“you”) and its use is subject to these Terms and Conditions.
The Digital Card is made up of a set of data, which allows you to carry out debit instructions and/or operations through electronic means, including by telephone, charged to your Account and/or Card.
For the generation and use of the Digital Card, you agree to the following:
- You must have the American Express “Amex® App” (the “App”) and at least one active Card associated with it,
- Expressly request the creation of your Digital Card through the option provided by American Express within the App.
- Once the Digital Card has been generated, you may use the information of the Digital Card provided by American Express through the App to make a transaction or instruct any charge through electronic means, including by telephone.
You acknowledge and accept that where your Supplementary Cardmembers generate Digital Cards associated with your active Card or Cards, you will be directly responsible for the transactions you or your Supplementary Cardmembers make with them.
In all matters not provided for in these Terms and Conditions, the Digital Card is subject to the terms and conditions of the Card Account agreement that regulates the use of the Card. You can find these agreements here:

2. Use of the Digital Card
The creation and offering to you of the Digital Card does not mean that a further line of credit is being granted. The Digital Card is considered as associated with the Account previously granted to the Cardmember, under the corresponding Card Account agreement and the same terms will apply.
The Digital Card will have the national and international validity of the Card from which it has been generated, but you may only use it to instruct payments for goods, services, taxes or make any other type of charge through electronic means, such as, but not limited to: internet pages, mobile applications or by phone.
You acknowledge and accept that the transactions or charges that you make with your Digital Card, including any Supplementary Cards, will be reflected in the Card Account Statement for your Card as part of transactions made with that Card.
Please call the customer service number that appears on the back of your physical Card if you have any questions or require assistance.
3. Suspension and cancellation of the Digital Card
You have the right to withdraw for 14 days after the Digital Card is issued.
You may also request the cancellation, suspension or reactivation of your Digital Card, at any time, by dialling the number on the back of your physical Card.
We reserve the right to suspend, block or cancel the Digital Card at any time and immediately, including without prior notice, where you have breached these Terms and Conditions, due to fraudulent use identified by us or for any other reason which, in our opinion, affects the correct operation of the Digital Card.
The Digital Card may continue to be used in cases of replacement of the physical Card in non-fraud related cases. In the event of cancellation of the Account and the physical Card, the Digital Card will also be cancelled.
In the event of suspected fraud on the Digital Card, the Customer must contact the number on the back of their physical Card.
4. Fees
You will not be charged for the creation and use of the Digital Card, however, all the charges instructed by you and that have been charged to your Account and/or Card must be paid in accordance with the terms of your Card Account agreement.
The Digital Card will be subject to the same charges, interest and exchange rates of your Card and will not be subject to any different or additional charges.
5. Changes to these Terms and Conditions
We reserve the right to change these terms and conditions at any time but will provide you with 30 calendar days’ notice if you have a Credit Card and two months’ notice if you have a charge Card through any of the channels provided in the Card Account agreement. If you do not agree with the changes, you must immediately cease using the Digital Card and, where appropriate, request its cancellation.
6. Limitation of liability
We won’t be responsible to you for losses and costs caused by things that are abnormal or unforeseeable and that we can’t reasonably control where those things would’ve happened despite our reasonable efforts to prevent them. For example, where there is a breakdown of a power supply or a natural disaster that prevents use of the Digital Card.
7. Breach of these Terms and Conditions
We reserve the right to take action against you, including for any breach of these Terms and Conditions - including ending this Digital Card agreement and your Card account agreement.
8. Governing law and jurisdiction
We’ll communicate with you in English. English law will apply to this agreement and to dealings between us before this agreement applied. The courts of England shall have non-exclusive jurisdiction over us and you. This means the English courts will be able to deal with any claims.
