The Platinum Card Can Help You Build Positive Experiences

Platinum goes the extra mile to replace life’s hassles with everyday adventure through perks and services like access to the Global Lounge Collection®, including the recently expanded Centurion® Network of Lounges and Studios, so you can travel in comfort.

What’s more, Platinum also helps get you exclusive access to sought-after restaurants around the globe thanks to Global Dining Access by Resy, your personal digital dining concierge.

Amex Platinum Authorized User Benefits and Fees

Like all American Express Cards, the Platinum Card allows you to add Additional Card Members, commonly known as “authorized users,” to your account. The annual fee is $195 for each Additional Platinum Card. Additional Card Members must be 13 years of age or older.8

Adding Card Members to your account can be a great way to maximize points-earning potential and extend benefits to those you care about. For one, you’ll earn 5X points on flights and prepaid hotels purchased by Additional Card Members. What’s more, Additional Card Members will receive benefits including – but not limited to – Global Entry or TSA PreCheck® fee credits. This can add up to big savings. More specifically, Additional Card Members are eligible to get either a $100 statement credit every four years for Global Entry or an $85 credit every four and a half years for TSA PreCheck, as long as the application fee is paid with the Platinum Card. If you’re approved for Global Entry, you’ll receive access to TSA PreCheck at no additional charge. Card Members can apply for TSA PreCheck through any Authorized Enrollment Provider.

It’s important to note that other than Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, each Additional Card does not get its own allocation of credits. Instead, all other credits are shared across all Cards on the account.

For Platinum Card Members who prefer a streamlined supplementary card, Companion Platinum Cards® are an option with no added annual fee. Companion Card Members can get benefits like Global Entry or TSA PreCheck fee credits and access to The Hotel Collection.8

Remember: While Additional Card Members are not account owners, they are authorized to use the primary Card Member’s account. The primary Card Member is responsible for all spending activity and must pay for all charges made by Additional Card Members.

The Takeaway

The American Express Platinum Card’s $695 annual fee works out to about $58 a month. Depending on your spending preferences, this may be a small price to pay for access to Platinum’s elevated suite of benefits, services, wellness, entertainment, and travel credits – on top of the traditional benefits that have kept Platinum at the forefront of luxury travel credit cards.
