Who can upgrade?

Applicants must be over 18 years old and approval is subject to status.

 

By proceeding with this Upgrade you are requesting to end your existing agreement, and apply for a new American Express Platinum Card agreement. 

 

Your agreement will only end if we accept your application to Upgrade, which is subject to approval, and Card eligibility. Your Account number will stay the same. By applying for this Upgrade, you request that any existing balance agreement is transferred to your new American Express Platinum Card agreement. Any balance will be subject to exactly the same terms (such as interest rate) after transfer, as it is before transfer.

1. Subject to eligibility and approval. The 75,000 Membership Rewards® points will be awarded onto your Account once you have been approved and you have spent £6,000 within the first three months of Cardmembership. Offer starts on 27 October 2025 and ends 13 January 2026. Only spend on the Platinum Card® will qualify towards eligible spend. Eligible spend means purchases for goods or services minus returns and other credits. The offer is only available if you have upgraded from the American Express® Preferred Rewards Gold Credit Card or the American Express® Rewards Credit Card. This introductory offer is subject to change and can be withdrawn at any time. Please note that it can take up to 60 days for bonus points to be awarded to your Account. You will not receive this bonus if you have ever received an Upgrade bonus before.

 

2. Platinum Global Dining statement credits are limited to £200 per year for UK participating restaurants and £200 for participating non-UK restaurants. Your Local Dining Credit will give you £200 per year with £100 to spend from January to June, and a further £100 to spend from July to December for UK participating restaurants. Your Abroad Dining Credit will give you £200 per year with £100 to spend from January to June, and a further £100 to spend from July to December for participating non-UK restaurants. Enrolment is required.

 

3. In order to provide this service, American Express Services Europe Limited needs to share the information you have provided with Priority PassTM. We will also share your date of birth with Priority Pass for ongoing identification and Account validation purposes. Priority Pass will use the information solely for the purpose of providing their services, and will not share it with any third parties. These conditions are also available in full at prioritypass.com. If you wish to opt out of the Priority Pass benefit please call your Platinum Travel service. Once we have completed your lounge access enrolment, Priority Pass, will send you and any Platinum Supplementary Cardmember Priority Pass cards that will provide complimentary access to a network of over 1,400 airport lounges globally. A Priority Pass Welcome Pack for each Cardmember will be sent out separately and should be received within 28 days of Card approval. In order to access Priority Pass lounges, the Cardmember must present a valid Priority Pass membership in his or her name, along with the boarding pass for same day travel and government-issued ID. The main Cardmember and the Platinum Supplementary Cardmember may bring up to one guest into the lounge at no cost. Any additional guests will be charged a fee at the prevailing rate to his or her American Express Platinum Card. Subsequent years’ renewal Terms and Conditions are at the discretion of Priority Pass for complete conditions of use visit prioritypass.com. Terms and Conditions apply and there are exclusions in your American Express travel insurance policy which cannot be varied or removed. Please note that:

·         In order to access certain insurance benefits, you need to use your American Express® Card to pay for the trip or item.

·         Excesses apply to certain benefits.

·         You are covered for a maximum of 240 days in a 365 day period and for single trips up to a maximum duration of 90 consecutive days.

·         Medical Assistance and Expenses cover does not apply if 70 years of age or above and you must be registered with a UK general practitioner.

·         The insurance excludes cover for pre-existing medical conditions other than those on the accepted conditions list. If you have a pre-existing medical condition that falls outside of the list of accepted conditions, you may be able to obtain alternative or additional insurance via MoneyHelper or by calling the advice service on 0800 138 7777 (free from within the UK). Lines are open Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 18:00.

·         You will be required to provide information and supporting documents in order to make a claim, including but not limited to your Card number, proof that you were on a trip and the name of your treating registered Medical Practitioner

5. Valid only for new Fine Hotels & Resorts bookings made through the Platinum Travel service. Payment must be made in full with an American Express Card in the Platinum Cardmember’s name. Cardmember must travel on itinerary booked to be eligible for benefits described. Noon check-in and room upgrade are based on availability and are provided at check-in. 6. You will be liable for all charges made by the Additional Cardmember. The term ‘Additional Card’ refers to the American Express® Supplementary Card programme. The first Platinum Supplementary Card is provided at no extra charge. If you already have an a Supplementary Card, you will be given the option to upgrade your Supplementary Card at no extra charge. An annual fee of £285 applies to each Platinum Supplementary Card beyond the one offered at no extra charge. Supplementary Cards can be requested for anyone aged 18 or over with a permanent UK address. If approved, you will be responsible for any spending on your Account made by the Supplementary Cardmember. Approval subject to status and Terms and Conditions apply.
