How does my PIN work when receiving a new or replacement Card?

If you receive a replacement or renewal Card, your PIN will remain the same. A new PIN will only be sent by post if you have requested a PIN reminder or have opened a new Account without setting a PIN.

 

Activating a New PIN

If you change your PIN using the American Express® App or Online Account, the update is processed in our system but not immediately stored on your Card chip. To fully activate your new PIN, use your old PIN for one Chip & PIN transaction at a card terminal. This will update your new PIN on your Card chip.

 

PIN Security

Changing your PIN is safe and secure. It can only be done through the American Express App or Online Account, after logging in with your personal credentials and completing security checks. Your PIN remains encrypted, and we continuously monitor Card activity to protect against fraud.

You can manage your PIN anytime through the American Express App or your Online Account.
