Accessibility
American Express is committed to making our website more accessible to all visitors, regardless of any visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning or neurological disability.
Please visit our Online Guide to find out more on viewing heading & navigation menus, how to change your browser settings and useful links to learn more about accessibility online
Access Keys
We have placed shortcuts, known as access key links, in our web site to help navigate the page.
Use the keys:
Alt+0: Before the American Express logo to go to the American Express home page.
Alt+1: Top of the navigation bar.
Navigation
A hidden menu has been placed at the beginning of each page to allow screen reader users to go to the main areas of the page.
A hidden link has also been provided at the beginning of each page to provide easy access to information on accessibility.
At the top of every page is a hidden link that will take you to the main content area of the page. The link will be spoken by screen reading software and, if you’re using a keyboard, it will appear the first time you press the Tab key.
Heading and navigation menus
Headings are used to introduce sections and are sized to make the content easier to understand. Our navigation menus are designed to be easy to use, even with a screen reader.
Colours
We are working to ensure that the content on the pages in our site have enough brightness and contrast to be seen clearly. If you would rather view the site in high contrast mode, you can use the Alt+Shift+Print Screen key combination to change the display.
Tables
Tables on our site have headings for the columns, and we use summaries and captions to make them easier to understand no matter how you access them.
Forms and fields
Our forms are built in a way that works whether you use a keyboard or other assistive device, including the ability to go forward using the Tab key and backward using Shift+Tab. Each input is clearly labeled so you will be able to understand what information we are collecting, no matter how you access the form.
