Will I be charged interest on my Card, and how is it calculated?

Charge Cards

No interest is charged because you pay your balance in full each month. Fees for late payments will apply.

Credit Cards

You can avoid interest payments by choosing to repay the full statement balance by the payment due date.

If you choose not to pay your statement balance in full by the payment due date, you will be subject to variable interest rates that depend on:

  • The Credit Card interest rate, which is variable based on the Bank of England Base Rate.
  • The balance on your Account on each day in the billing period.
  • Interest accrued on balances between your billing statement closing date and when you pay your bill.

Your statements detail your purchases, your balance and the amount of interest you have been charged for the specified period. You can also view this information by logging into the American Express® App or your Online Account.
