How is my credit limit determined, and can it be increased?

What kind of credit limit will I get?

Your credit limit is determined based on financial details and information we receive in your application. We review this information on a regular basis and may offer you a new credit limit during your Membership. You can also request to increase or decrease your credit limit directly on the American Express® App, or on your Online Account.

How often can I apply for and receive a credit limit increase?

You are eligible to apply for a credit limit increase at any time as long as the limit remains within the maximum limit for your Card product.

You can apply for a credit limit decrease at any time as long as the limit remains within the minimum limit for your Card product and the limit is not reduced below the balance on your Account.

Following a credit limit decrease, you will be subject to the usual credit limit increase criteria if you later decide that you would like to increase your limit.
