SafeKey works in the background while you make an online purchase and helps protect you against fraud. While shopping online, it verifies security via text and email verification codes to confirm it's really you making the purchase. SafeKey will now appear more often during the checkout process and you may need to verify your identity more frequently as a result.

Contactless payments
Contactless payments are another secure way for you to pay. Our security systems work in the background, checking your purchases against your previous buying patterns and, looking for irregularities that might signal fraud. If we suspect a problem, our team will contact you by phone, text or email to confirm that it was you making the purchase.

Contactless Mobile Payments
With contactless mobile payments, no changes or additional steps are required when using your mobile wallet including as strong authentication is already in place for relevant purchases. Contactless mobile payments include payments via Amex Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay.

When you access your Online Account, you may need to verify yourself more often. We are introducing additional layers of security to keep your Account even more secure.
In order to receive your one-time password to verify yourself, please check that your mobile number and email address are up to date.
Important Reminder: If you select the option to “Remember this Device” during the Two-Step Verification process, please remember to keep your personal device secure at all times. Selecting this option may pose an increased risk of fraudulent access to your Amex account if someone gains access to your device.
