From flexible redemption options to ways to maximize the value of your points, we’ll dive into how the program works, ways to earn and redeem, and why Membership Rewards can pump up the value of every dollar you spend.
How Amex Membership Rewards Points Work
You’ll earn Membership Rewards points every time you make eligible purchases with your American Express Card. You can then choose how to use them, whether that means putting cash back into your account, treating yourself to a night out, or upgrading your next trip with a touch of luxury. The value of Membership Rewards points vary, depending on how and where you choose to redeem them. Points are not tied to one airline, hotel, or dining program, and they never expire as long as your account stays open and in good standing.
With Membership Points, you could:
- Save more when you pay for dinner out with friends.
- Add to your balance when you use your card to book flights or prepaid hotels on AmexTravel.com.
- Collect cash back from your weekly grocery run.
- Pay less when traveling by public transit.
Did you know?
With the American Express Green Card®, you could earn up to 3X points whenever you use it to purchase transit fare.

Benefits of the Membership Rewards Program

Once you’re enrolled, the program offers you the flexibility to redeem points in whatever way suits your wallet and lifestyle, whether you want to splurge or save. You’ll also enjoy a seamless online experience where you can transfer points to airline and hotel partners.
