Can I use my American Express Card in China?

Yes, once Card Members add their Singapore issued American Express Cards on Alipay, they will be able to use QR payments through the app at millions of accepting locations across China.

To get started, download the Alipay app and follow the instructions below:

Registering with Alipay
1. In your phone's app store, search for 'Alipay' and download the application.
2. Open Alipay and select 'Agree' after reviewing the information in the Privacy Protection Tips pop-up.
3. Select your local region and enter your mobile phone number.
4. After reviewing the Alipay Service Agreement and Privacy Protection pop-up, select 'Agree'.
5. Complete the verification action which appears on-screen.
6. After reviewing the Alipay Service Agreement and Privacy Protection pop-up, select 'Agree'.
7. Select the country which appears on your government-issued ID.
8. From the Alipay homepage, select 'Account' tab.
9. Select 'Bank Cards' from the list of available options and create a 6-digit password. This password may be requested when adding more cards to your digital wallet and used to verify future transactions.
10. Enter your 15-digit Card number, expiry date and CVV code (the 4-digit code on the front of your card) and select 'Agree to Terms and Add'.
11. You may be asked to enter a 6-digit code sent to you via SMS to complete the process.


Paying with Alipay
1. From the Alipay home page, select 'Pay/ Receive'.
2. Present the barcode/ QR code when paying for your purchases.
3. If you have added more than one American Express Card, you can select the Card you would like to use for payment by selecting the option immediately below the barcode/ QR code.


Adding Another Card to Alipay
1. From the Alipay home page, select 'Account'.
2. Select 'Bank Cards' from the list of available options, then select the + icon from the top right of the screen.
3. Enter your 15-digit Card number, expiry date and CVV code (the 4-digit code on the front of your card)
4. You may be asked to enter a 6-digit code sent to you via SMS to complete the process.
