Your questions answered
Does my Travel Credit expire?
Yes. Your Travel Credit must be redeemed within the same anniversary year and cannot be carried forward. To view your Travel Credit expiry date, simply log in at American Express Travel Online and see the Travel Credit link at the top right hand side of the page.
When is Travel Credit issued?
If you’re eligible, a new Travel Credit will be issued each anniversary year commencing the date from when your account was opened. You can redeem it as soon as you’ve paid the annual fee and minimum payment on your most recent statement.
Why doesn’t my Travel Credit show at the online checkout?
There can be a few reasons why your Travel Credit isn’t showing. And it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re ineligible. Here are some helpful tips:
- Are you logged in at americanexpress.com.au/travel?
- Have you logged in and selected the Account/Card with the Travel Credit benefit?
- Have you used your Travel Credit already? If yes, you’re not entitled until your next anniversary year
- Are you on the Australian American Express Travel site and not the US site?
- Are you the Primary Card account holder? Additional Card Members are not eligible to view/redeem the Travel Credit
- Have you paid for the annual fee on your Card and is your account in good standing?
Still no luck? We’ll happily assist – simply call the number on the back of your Card.
I have more than one Travel Credit? Can I use all for a single booking?
No, you can only use one Travel Credit per booking.
Can I book my travel over the phone with assistance from a consultant?
No, the Travel Credit can only be redeemed for new bookings at American Express Travel Online.
Can I use my Travel Credit to purchase travel for my family and friends?
Yes, you can use your Travel Credit to book travel for other people, provided the tickets are not for resale, promotional or commercial use.
I would like to cancel a booking made on American Express Travel. Will the Travel Credit I used for this booking be refunded?
Your Travel Credit is available for single redemption only and will not be refunded in cash or credit if your booking is cancelled.
The amount of the booking paid with your American Express Card will be refunded to your Card. Refunds for your booking are subject to supplier cancellation policies and any amount refunded is after deducting the supplier fees.

1. Platinum Reserve Card Insurance: The insurance on American Express Cards is subject to terms, conditions and exclusions (such as maximum age limits, pre-existing medical conditions and cover limits). You must use your American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card to pay for your trip in order to be covered under the travel insurance and pay for eligible items for those items to be covered under the retail insurance benefits. It is important you read the American Express Platinum Reserve Credit Card Insurance Terms and Conditions and consider whether the insurance is right for you. We do not provide advice about the insurance or whether it is appropriate for your objectives, financial situation or needs. This insurance is underwritten by Chubb Insurance Australia Limited (ABN 23 001 642 020, AFSL No. 239687) under a group policy of insurance held by American Express Australia Limited (ABN 92 108 952 085, AFSL No. 291313). Access to this insurance is provided solely by reason of the statutory operation of section 48 of the Insurance Contracts Act 1984 (Cth). Card Members are not a party to the group policy, do not have an agreement with Chubb and cannot vary or cancel the cover. American Express is not the insurer, does not guarantee or hold the rights under the group policy on trust for Card Members and does not act on behalf of Chubb or as its agent. American Express is not an Authorised Representative (under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth)) of Chubb.

The Travel Credit can be used for 365 days from the benefit anniversary date and cannot be used past the expiration date. To check the expiration date of your Travel Credit if you have not already redeemed it, please visit americanexpress.com.au/travel; log in and click ‘Travel Credit’. If your booking is cancelled, and your Travel Credit has already been used and associated statement credit applied to your account, you will forfeit your annual Travel Credit benefit and American Express may reverse the statement credits issued. You need to be able to spend on the Card to access the Travel Credit benefit and it should be credited to your Card Account within 3 business days but may take up to 30 days.
