How do I activate, deactivate, and manage Touch/Face ID?
Touch/Face ID allows you to quickly and securely log in to the American Express® App using biometric authentication. You can easily activate, deactivate, or manage this feature within the app.
Activating Touch/Face ID
Face ID login allows you to use your facial recognition instead of entering your Amex User ID and Password to log in to your American Express® Online Account.
IMPORTANT: Security and Privacy
- To use Face ID, you need to enable it on your device through your iOS Settings under the "Face ID & Passcode" section.
- American Express does not have access to your Face ID data.
- For information on how Apple uses and stores your Face ID and Keychain data, please see Apple's Privacy Policy and iOS Security Guides.
Deactivating Touch/Face ID
You can turn off Touch/Face ID at any time by going to the Account tab in the American Express® App.
Managing Touch/Face ID Security
- Anyone who has a registered fingerprint or face data on your device can log in to your Amex® App. Make sure only your biometrics are stored on your device.
- American Express does not store or have access to your fingerprint or face data, this is managed by Apple. Find out more about how Apple handles biometric data.
- For security reasons, Touch/Face ID may expire over time, requiring you to log in manually with your User ID and Password before reactivating the feature in the Account tab.
You can manage your Touch/Face ID settings anytime within the American Express App.
