Undergraduate Summer Internship Programme
During your 10-week internship, you will have a chance to work on meaningful projects that positively impact our teams’ success. This programme is designed for students who are in their penultimate year. The summer internships give you a chance to get full-time roles with #teamamex once you complete university.

MBA Summer Internship Programme
During your 10-week internship, you will gain real-life experience that brings you closer to your dream job. You’ll have the chance to work on projects that significantly impact the business while exploring your interests and enhancing your strengths. It’s also a great opportunity to engage and build relationships with colleagues, leaders and industry professionals. The summer internships give you a chance to get full-time roles with #teamamex once you complete university.

Insight Programmes
These two-day programmes are designed to provide students unparalleled access into the working world of American Express, to better understand our organisation, how we operate and recognise the wide range of opportunities we have to offer. We offer three types of insight programmes: Spring Insight Programme, Black Leaders Insight Programme, and Women in Tech Insight Programme. With an eclectic mix of business presentations, workshops, and interactive skill sessions, our Insight Programmes are fully equipped to give you the kick-start you need to initiate your career goals. Technology Apprenticeship Programme
During your 18 months apprenticeship, you will gain hands-on coding experience with additional opportunities such as networking with external start-ups, competing in hackathons and supporting local community work. We’ll provide each apprentice with continuous training and development, 20% in house classroom-based training with 80% on-the-job learning. The programme has been designed to nurture our next generation of technical specialists and leaders.

Graduate Programme
This programme will provide a head-start for your career, designed to introduce graduates to multiple business areas and develop them into future leaders. Recent graduates will gain hands-on practical experience within our organisation. The programme runs between 12 to 24 months, depending on the business unit.

Undergraduate Summer Internship & Graduate Programmes
Round 1
Submit a pre-recorded video answering questions specific to the role you have applied for. If you have applied for more than one role, you will be required to submit a separate video answering questions specific to that role.
Round 2
Next, you will participate in an assessment centre that includes competency-based interviews, case studies and group discussions to showcase your communication, analytical and team interaction skills.
MBA Internship Summer Programme
Round 1
This consists of one or two consecutive 45-60 minute interviews. This is a chance to showcase your skill sets and highlight your creativity.
Round 2
Upon completing the first round, selected candidates will be invited for two one-hour-long virtual interviews with senior leaders.
Technology Apprenticeship Programme
Round 1
Should you meet all of the qualifications after applying, you will be sent a link to complete an online coding assessment. You will have seven days to complete the assessment.
Round 2
After passing the coding challenge, you’ll be invited to interview at our Virtual Discovery Day. The virtual experience will allow you to learn more about the American Express culture and engage with various engineering teams within our technology division. You will meet with our American Express colleagues for our assessment process, consisting of two consecutive 30-minute interviews.

Yes, applicants are welcome to apply for up to two roles.
Participants in our internships, apprenticeships and full-time opportunities are paid. We currently offer a competitive starting salary and benefits package to campus candidates, dependent on role and level of experience. Successful candidates will be informed of compensation details at offer stage.
• Insight Week is designed for first year students.
• Undergraduate summer internships are intended for students in their penultimate year of study, due to graduate in 2024.
• For the full-time Graduate Programme, you must be a recent graduate or due to graduate in 2023 to apply.
• To be eligible to apply for MBA summer internships, candidates must be enrolled in an MBA programme or have recently graduated.
• The Technology Apprenticeship requires you to possess GCSE qualifications in Math and English at Grade C or above with prior coding knowledge/experience in at least one programming language. Candidates should not have studied Java Level 4 or above to be eligible for this programme.
Currently, our undergraduate & MBA internships as well as full-time graduate programmes offer positions across Strategy, Business Development, Credit and Fraud Risk, Finance, Marketing, Technology, Product Development, Customer Service and Business Strategy, and Risk & Governance. Our apprenticeship programme focuses on Technology.
- We have recently resumed in-person recruitment events.
- Internships are now conducted in a hybrid model as part of the Amex Flex program where interns are expected to be in office a certain number of days in the week and have flexibility to work virtually on the remaining days. The days are determined within individual teams to maximize in person networking opportunities.
There are many different American Express functions that look for specific skills relevant to their business areas, and will be detailed in each job descriptions. However, across all functions we consistently seek creativity, strategic and analytical thinking, and effective communication skills. This includes individuals who can thrive in a collaborative environment through the ability to build strong networks and potentially be future leaders. They must also share our values of trust, security, integrity, quality, good citizenship, respect and commitment to our customers.
Campus recruitment works in a cyclical basis, usually opening recruitment for our undergraduate opportunities in September and closing in November. Applications for our MBA opportunities open in October and close in February the following year. Recruitment for our Apprenticeship programme runs from October to January. The deadline for each role is specified on the job description.
We receive a very high volume of applications and work hard to process them as quickly as possible. It can take up to eight weeks before being procesed onto the next stage. We will keep in touch to update you on the status of your application.
