Getting around Auckland with Amex

You'll hear three beeps from the reader confirming your contactless payment has been accepted. And remember to always tag on and off with the same Card or Apple device for each journey. If you’re travelling in a family or a group, each person must have their own Card or Apple device to travel, otherwise, they’ll need to pay using an AT HOP card.
Fares paid with American Express are charged to your Account at the adult AT HOP rate, totalled at the end of each day as a single payment, with a $20 daily fare cap per Card Account.
There are no transaction fees and you have access to your basic travel history for the last 7 days via the AT Mobile App or AT website.

Frequently Asked Questions
You can use your American Express Card on public transport on the AT network. This includes all eligible trains, buses and some ferry services across Auckland. The contactless tag on and tag off will not be applicable at AT card readers for travel on Fullers360 Waiheke ferry service. You can still purchase tickets at the ticket office for Fullers360 Waiheke ferries using your American Express Card.
Just like an AT HOP card, you need to tag on at the start of the journey and tag off at the end of the journey.
Tag on and tag off with your American Express Card or a linked device, and travel for Standard adult HOP fare. There’s no concession or discounts applicable. There’s no need to queue or buy a ticket or top up your AT HOP card. For more details please refer to at.govt.nz
