This guide explains everything you need to know about using your Credit Card internationally, including practical travel tips and the support available to American Express Card Members before, during and after their trip.

Before you travel: preparing to use your Credit Card overseas

A little preparation before you leave Australia can help make travelling overseas smoother and give you confidence when using your Credit Card abroad.

Check your Card details

Before you travel, make sure:

  • Your Card won't expire while you're away
  • Your available credit is enough to cover your planned expenses
  • Your contact details are up to date
  • Your Online Account is accessible if you need it overseas

Add your Card to your Digital Wallet

If you haven't already, add your eligible Amex Card to your preferred Digital Wallet, such as Apple Pay, Google Pay or Samsung Pay, before you travel. You can then pay using your device wherever contactless payments are accepted. Learn more about Digital Wallets.

Please note that some hotels may still require your physical Card.

Save important contact information

Keep American Express contact details somewhere separate from your Card, so you can quickly get help if your Card is lost, stolen or damaged while overseas. Also keep contact details of your travel insurance provider if you need immediate help whilst travelling.
