Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Platinum or Premium Card?
Platinum and Premium Cards offer great value benefits, more perks and richer rewards than a standard Card. These benefits normally come with a higher annual fee, so you should weigh up the value of these benefits together with the way you spend to see how the Card will suit your lifestyle.
The term ‘Platinum’ has less to do with the actual Card colour, and more to do with the breadth and quality of benefits that come with the Card. This category typically provides the richest benefits available by American Express.
Is The American Express Platinum Card® a Credit Card?
No, the Platinum Card is a Charge Card. Charge Cards are not Credit Cards, but they do offer another form of Card payment. They have no pre-set spending limit7, but that does not mean unlimited spending. Charge Cards give you greater purchasing power with no pre-set spending limits, allowing you to make larger purchases on your Card, and earn points too. Learn more about Charge Cards.
