Important steps to enhance your Card security
Secure online shopping with American Express SafeKey®
American Express SafeKey provides a new layer of fraud protection at participating merchants as part of our continuous efforts to provide a safer and more secure online shopping environment.
Beginning December 2015, you may be asked to enter a One-Time Code to complete online purchases at participating merchant websites.
During the checkout process at participating SafeKey merchants, we may send a One-Time Code to the e-mail address that we have on file for your Card. To ensure your security, we ask that you enter the One-Time Code into the merchant website in order to complete the transaction. Some online purchases may only require the three-digit Card Security Code (3CSC) found on the back of your Card, while others may require your 3CSC in addition to your OTC.
You are automatically enrolled in American Express SafeKey. You don’t need to take any additional steps to take advantage of this online security benefit, other than making sure that your e-mail address is up-to-date for all of your Basic, additional, and Supplementary American Express Cards. You may update your e-mail address through logging in to your American Express Online Account or by calling the number on the back of your Card.
