Financial Hardship | American Express UK

Life doesn’t always go according to plan, and when you face difficult times we are here to offer support. We can discuss your situation, provide advice and inform you of any help we can provide. We can also suggest appropriate services that can give expert advice.

If you, or someone in your household, have recently lost a job, you’re worried about multiple debts, or you’re struggling to make payments, we’re here to help.

Your situation

Have you or someone in your household lost your job recently?

Has the income situation of someone you are financially dependent on changed?

Is supporting your family from a single income causing you to struggle financially?

Are you struggling or feeling stressed about making your payments?

How we can help

We can work together to help you through this difficult time by discussing:

  • Your income and expenditure and provide advice on next steps.
  • The benefits and downsides of payment plans so that you can make the best decision for your situation.
  • Additional useful services, like the National Debtline, that you can use to get advice on your financial situation.
  • How your situation could affect your Credit File.

If your situation sounds similar, please contact us at your earliest convenience.

We recommend you having an idea of your financial situation before contacting us, such as your Income and Expenditure. This will help us understand your situation in detail and help us provide you with the most appropriate solution to your circumstance.

Income and Expenditure

To help us understand your situation more clearly, an Income and Expenditure will enable us to inform you on the next best steps.

We have a few different options for you to help with creating an Income and Expenditure review;

  • Open Banking
  • Income and Expenditure Form
  • Contact us: We understand this can be difficult, so if you require any assistance we can take you through the process with our Live Chat Team or over the phone

Open Banking

The Open Banking web service has been created by the UK Government and is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). It allows our customers to share their financial information, such as Income and Expenditure, with American Express from online bank and/or building society accounts. It’s quick, easy and secure and we offer this in association with our partner Experian, the credit reference agency.

You will need access to a computer or smartphone connected to the internet to complete the required steps in the Open Banking website. This is not a credit check and the service does not affect your credit score.

This service is being provided by the UK’s major banks, the list of banks and building societies offering this service can be found at: https://www.openbanking.org.uk/customers/what-is-open-banking/

If you would like to proceed with this then please follow the below link to the service. Once completed, you can contact us using our Live Chat function, or call our team directly. Whatever the means you contact us by we will be able to access the Income and Expenditure information produced in Open Banking and have a conversation with you, where we will find the best solution for you.
