How does American Express® Business Travel Account work?
Book Travel
When your employees request flights, hotels, or ground transportation through your Travel Booking Provider, the bookings will be made using your Business Travel Account. The Travel Booking Provider sends electronic information to American Express, who passes it along to you in a daily report of all booked travel expenses.
Receive Statement
Receive statements daily, weekly, bi-weekly or monthly via BTAConnect. You’ll see all your business travel expenses in one simple PDF or Excel document that's easy to filter and sort, so you can gain accuracy in reporting and discover opportunities to save.
Reconcile Account
Send a single monthly payment to American Express, which can reduce admin time spent reconciling individual payments and processing reimbursements, whilst expanding your cash flow up to 55 days.

Additionally, flights charged to the Business Travel Account attract complimentary Business Traveller Insurance, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and access to emergency legal and medical support while traveling through the 24/7 Global Assist™ hotline.
An American Express BTA can improve your company’s cash flow with up to 55 cash flow days1, while helping ensure your vendors are paid promptly through single-use Virtual Card numbers so you can take advantage of early-payment incentives.
It also gives you rich data about your travel-related spend to help support vendor negotiations and secure savings with preferred suppliers, and it can help reduce the risk of fraud by providing single-use Virtual Card numbers instead of Credit or Charge Card numbers.
A Virtual Account Number (VAN) is a payment number used for travel bookings made with the Business Travel Account. To learn more about how Virtual Payments work for hotel bookings, you can read our Virtual Payments Guide here.
The Virtual Account Number should be entered into your authorisation and settlement system/terminal like a standard keyed transaction (such as Card Member-not-present or Card number-on-file). American Express confirms that there is no requirement to see a physical Card for this transaction as the booking is settled by your corporate customer and not the individual traveller.
Please find below additional information and guidance on the acceptance of American Express Corporate virtual/lodged non-plastic products that are fully exempt from SCA. Merchants/Payment Gateways should ensure that transaction involving these products are processed straight to Authorisation as they do not require SCA. However, we do provide guidance below if the transaction is being sent through to 3DS SafeKey so you are aware of the responses provided through that route.

American Express is able to identify these non-plastic Card (virtual) products and will send back the appropriate 3DS SafeKey response code, thereby excluding them from requiring American Express SafeKey authentication.
You can use your Amex BTA for domestic travel or use it internationally wherever American Express is accepted. Foreign transaction fees may apply.
If your employees travel on British Airways, you can choose the British Airways American Express BTA to earn corporate airline rewards on your BTA flight spend. Your company will earn On Business Points at an accelerated earn rate of 2 On Business Points for every eligible £1 spent with British Airways3 which can be converted into future flight savings that is double the normal earn rate. For illustrative purposes, you would earn 2 On Business Points for every eligible £1 spent directly with British Airways for eligible flights purchased with this Card Account. Of this, 1 On Business Points compose the Amex Accelerator, the remainder being your base On Business Point earn.
