SMALL CHIP SUPERIOR SECURITY

Why Chip & PIN Technology?

Why Chip & PIN Technology?

Chip & PIN technology is an established standard for safety and security for Card transactions. A Chip and PIN Card not only ensures greater security of Point-of-Sale (POS) Card transactions, but also provides enhanced protection against fraud from lost, stolen and counterfeit Cards.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced a set of guidelines on securing Card transactions. In compliance with these guidelines, American Express will be replacing existing magnetic stripe Cards with Chip and PIN enabled Cards in a phased manner over the coming few months.

Is there anything I need to do?

Once you receive your new Card, you will be required to create a PIN of your choice (view the “How do I create my PIN?” tab for details). Meanwhile, you can continue to use your existing American Express Card as you normally do. You can now also change your PIN online by logging into your Account. Go to the ‘Account management’ section and click on ‘Change PIN’.

  • Please remember, you will need to enter your old PIN* one final time, at a merchant store for a Chip and PIN transaction.

  • Your new PIN will be updated automatically on the Chip of your Card for all subsequent transactions.

* If your Card is eligible for cash advances and your first transaction is an ATM withdrawal, you may use your new PIN immediately.

Please note: Card delivery usually takes 24- 48 hrs, you may refer to the dispatch details sent to you on your registered mobile number shared at the time of Card application.

How will Chip & PIN technology benefit me?
  • Chip & PIN technology makes it difficult to duplicate or access data stored on your Card. As a result, Chip Cards provide enhanced protection against fraud from lost, stolen or counterfeit cards.
  • You will have a unique PIN that is provided only to you. This PIN is key to authorizing Card transactions and ensuring that your Card remains secure.

How will Chip & PIN technology benefit me?
  • Chip & PIN technology makes it difficult to duplicate or access data stored on your Card. As a result, Chip Cards provide enhanced protection against fraud from lost, stolen or counterfeit cards.
How does it Work?

How does it Work?

Chip & PIN technology uses an embedded microchip to encrypt your information, making it more difficult for unauthorized users to copy or access your data. Data can only be accessed when your Card is inserted into a Chip-enabled terminal and you enter your unique PIN that has either been selected by you or generated by the system.

The microchip allows for more accurate verification of a Card's authenticity and a Cardmember's identity. You will have a unique PIN that identifies you as the rightful holder of your Card and this will replace your signature as the means of authorizing a Card transaction.

When you make a purchase with a Chip Card at a Chip-enabled terminal, instead of swiping your Card, the merchant will follow these simple steps:

1. Insert your Chip Card into the terminal and keep it there for the duration of the transaction

2. Follow the prompts and request you to key in your 4-digit PIN to authorize the transaction. Your PIN replaces your signature

3. Generate and hand-over to you a printed confirmation receipt upon successful completion of your transaction
