What is ePrepaid?

ePrepaid is a digital reloadable Prepaid Card Account from American Express with a validity of 5 years, that enables you to conveniently and safely make online purchases at all Indian websites that accept American Express Cards.

With ePrepaid, you can  load  as much as you need, up to Rs 10,000 per month. This is safer than exposing your entire bank account online. When the funds in your ePrepaid Card Account run out, you can conveniently reload it via a Net Banking account or a Debit Card.

With online Card Account management, you can check your balance and transaction history. You can also get your Card Account balance and transaction history by calling us toll-free at 000-800-440-2332 (Monday-Friday; 9 am to 7 pm) within India.

Where can I get ePrepaid?

If you are 18 years of age or older, you can set up an ePrepaid Card Account online at americanexpress.co.in/eprepaid

To get ePrepaid, you have to provide certain information like name, date of birth and other contact details.

How long does it take to set up and use ePrepaid?

Your ePrepaid Card Account will be set up online within minutes of completing your application and loading funds on your ePrepaid Card Account*. The Card Account will be available for use immediately.

*subject to your application being approved.

Can I set up more than one ePrepaid Card Account?

Only one ePrepaid Card Account per person is allowed.

Are there any geographical restrictions for the purchaser/Card Account owner of ePrepaid?

The ePrepaid Card Account cannot be set up or used for purchases outside of India. The source of funding for the ePrepaid Card Account has to be from an Indian bank or a Debit Card issued in India.

How do I add money to my ePrepaid Card Account?

You can add money to the ePrepaid Card Account from your Net Banking account or a Debit Card online. When you are applying for ePrepaid, you will be asked to choose the bank or the Debit Card that you wish to transfer funds from.

When your ePrepaid funds are running low, you can reload your Card Account online at americanexpress.co.in/eprepaid

Do I have to pay any fee to American Express for using ePrepaid?

You don't have to pay any fees to American Express to use ePrepaid. This means:

  • No purchase fee
  • No monthly fee
  • No annual fee
  • No Card Account activation fee
  • No Card Account reload fee
  • No transaction fee

Does ePrepaid have a minimum or maximum balance requirement?

There is no on-going minimum balance requirement for the ePrepaid Card Account. At any point of time, you cannot have more than Rs 10,000 in the Card Account, as is directed by Reserve Bank of India.

What happens when I reload my Card Account with up to Rs 10,000 and one of the merchants where I used ePrepaid in the past, refunds the purchase amount due to order cancellation or for any other reason?

In such a scenario, we would be processing the refund to your ePrepaid Card Account up to a total of Rs 10,000 only. Any remaining funds will be sent to the Bank Account or the Debit Card that you used to fund your ePrepaid Card Account.

How often can I add funds to ePrepaid?

You can add funds as frequently as you want, provided that the total balance in your ePrepaid Card Account does not exceed Rs 10,000 at any time. Also, you cannot add more than Rs. 10,000 cumulatively in any calendar month.

Can I use ePrepaid at an ATM or to pay for goods and services at physical merchant locations?

No, you cannot use ePrepaid at ATMs or to make purchases at physical merchant locations. ePrepaid is a digital reloadable Prepaid Card Account to be used for online shopping in India.

Can I request a physical card to be shipped to me?

No, we cannot provide a physical plastic card. ePrepaid is a digital product for shopping with online merchants who accept American Express Cards.

Does the ePrepaid Card Account expire?

Your ePrepaid Card Account is valid for 5 years. For more information, please see the user agreement.

How do I manage my Card Account?

You can manage your Card Account online by visiting americanexpress.co.in/eprepaid and registering to create a User ID and Password.

Once you log in to your Card Account, you will be able to:

  • Check the Card Account balance
  • View transaction history — amount of purchase, where, and when
  • Manage e-mail and text message notifications (check with your mobile service provider for fees that may apply to SMS messages)
  • Load money on the Card Account
  • Retrieve your Card Account number

How do I change or update my personal information?

You may update your online profile by logging in to your Card Account at americanexpress.co.in/eprepaid and clicking “Edit” on the “Balance & Profile Page.”

If I forget my User ID or Password, how can I retrieve them?

You can retrieve your user ID by calling our Customer Service at 000-800-440-2332 (Monday-Friday; 9 am to 7 pm) within India.

You can retrieve your password by visiting americanexpress.co.in/eprepaid and clicking “Forgot Password” or by calling our Customer Service at 000-800-440-2332 (Monday-Friday; 9 am to 7 pm).

Can I set up e-mail and SMS alerts?

Yes, all you need to do is follow these simple steps:

  • Log in to your ePrepaid Card Account at americanexpress.co.in/eprepaid
  • Select “Manage Alerts”
  • You may update your e-mail address or mobile phone number
  • Select the type of alerts you would like to receive by e-mail and/or SMS
  • Click “Save”

You can choose to receive alerts when:

  • Funds are successfully loaded on the Card Account
  • The balance falls below a specified amount
  • A transaction is approved
  • A transaction is declined (only available on SMS alerts)

While American Express does not charge you for text messages, please check with your mobile network provider for possible SMS charges.

How can I view where I used ePrepaid?

You may view where ePrepaid was used by logging into your Card Account at americanexpress.co.in/eprepaid and selecting the “Transaction History” link in the “Manage Your Card Account” section. You can also call our Customer Service at 000-800-440-2332 (Monday-Friday; 9 am to 7 pm), within India, to get your transaction history.

How can I check the balance on my ePrepaid?

You can check the Card Account balance at any time on the “Balance & Profile” page in your online Card Account. You can also call our Customer Service at 000-800-440-2332 (Monday-Friday; 9 am to 7 pm), within India, to get your balance.

If you are enrolled in SMS messaging, you may also check the balance by texting BAL + the last four digits of your Card Account (e.g. “BAL XXXX”) to 56074.

How can I use ePrepaid for shopping online?

To make swift and easy payments:
Make sure to look for the payment option at our partner websites. Use just your ePrepaid User ID and a One Time Password (OTP) to complete the transaction at over 7000 partner websites.

If the above option is not available, please make the payment by entering your 15-digit ePrepaid Card Account Number and other details under the ‘American Express Card’ payment option

 

Which online stores accept ePrepaid?

ePrepaid is accepted at all online merchants in India where American Express Cards are accepted.

Are there any restrictions on where I can use my ePrepaid?

ePrepaid is designed for use with online merchants in India that accept American Express Cards. ePrepaid cannot be used for purchases at retail merchants, purchases by phone, or other “Card Not Present” transactions. ePrepaid may not be used in casinos, online gambling sites or for car rental reservations. Certain other limitations apply. Please see the user agreement for more information

What if an ePrepaid transaction fails at a partner merchant website?

In case you have transaction problems, make sure you know your balance and are trying to make a purchase worth equal or less than your balance. If a problem persists, please call our Customer Service at 000-800-440-2332 (Monday-Friday; 9 am to 7 pm) within India.

What if there is a transaction on my Card Account that I haven't made?

If you believe that an unauthorised transaction has happened after your Card Account number was stolen, please call our Customer Service at 000-800-440-2332 (Monday-Friday; 9 am to 7 pm) within India. You can also view the User Agreement for more details in the section titled “Errors or Questions about Transactions related to the Card Account.”

Will I get a paper statement?

You will not receive a paper statement in the mail. All transactions using ePrepaid are available online in your Card Account. If you would like a written history of Card Account transactions, please call our Customer Service at 000-800-440-2332 (Monday-Friday; 9 am to 7 pm), within India, for a 60-day written history.

Can I dispute a transaction on the ePrepaid Card Account?

ePrepaid Card Account holders can dispute unrecognised charges or transactions that they believe are fraudulent. Call us toll-free at 000-800-440-2332 (Monday-Friday; 9 am to 7 pm), within India, if you think your online transaction history or purchase receipt is wrong, or if you need more information about a particular transaction. You can also view the user agreement for more details.

How do I cancel my ePrepaid Card Account?

You can cancel your ePrepaid Card Account by calling Customer Service at 000-800-440-2332 (Monday-Friday; 9 am to 7 pm) within India. You should ideally use all of the available funds on the Card Account before requesting cancellation.

Can ePrepaid have negative balance?

If a merchant authorises a transaction for an amount greater than the ePrepaid’s actual available balance, the transaction will be declined.
